It took less than an hour to repair it. We just got back from the courthouse and now we are 100% legit. Filled up with gas. $78. Most of the miles were on 9 cylinders at 75 plus. 13.66 mpg. I estimated 12 mpg. So with a general tune up we can reasonably expect 15 mpg on the highway at more conservative speeds.

It must have been terrible limping along on only 9 cylinders.

Good mileage.

I drove my Ranger to Spokane this weekend. 75 MPH and heavy headwinds coming home. Got just under 18 MPG. The Ranger is not good on gas. Around town, driving very gently, I get about 16. I would consider 15 awesome for a vehicle like the Big Gulp.

If we can average 13-14 that is about all I expect.

Big Gulp visited the dumpster tonight. Our trash cans were full. Found an old box fan. Good motor to add to the copper pile.

When I find a used 18' trailer we can start hauling larger scrap like cars and farm equipment. Big Gulp will be put to work.

Nicely done! The Ford forum guys are obviously not aquainted with the CR lifestyle.

last ranger i had was an 03 fx4 4x4. was a really nice truck, had the 4.0. but y
ou are right... the fuel mileage was not very good. don't know that i ever got better than 17mpg. and even worse was the tiny fuel tanks. every trip to work burned 1/4 tank. seemed like every time i drove it i had to get gas.

that was really only complaint i had with the truck. i really like the 4.0/5 speed auto trans combo. and typically i prefer the manual trans.

You had a better version than mine.

You had the OHC vs OHV. Apparently no better MPG but you had about 30+ more HP. Also, I have a 4 speed auto, but with convertor lockup so it acts a bit like a five speed. I also prefer manuals, but I got a very good deal on this truck at a time when I needed it quickly. When my ex took our new 4X4 Dakota and winter hit and I needed a guaranteed way to get to work if it snowed...

Vortec's seem to do much better on gas.

Stopped at Oreilly's last night and had them clear the codes. Put about 40 miles on it since. No more codes. Runs great. Lots of power. Hauls straw bales and goat feed nicely. Swallowed 3 dining chairs, a full size bed frame, waterskis, wooden bench and a CD rack while still having room for 11 people.

Bunch of stuff the lady at the repurpose furniture store is interested in buying. Stuff I got from dumpsters and the curb.

Got a couple extra kids tonight so I pulled Big Gulp into the carport to protect it from the snow and ice we are suppose to be getting. Don't want to have to scrape windows for church tomorrow. My corolla is tucked inside the shop. Most likely until Monday or Tuesday.

This is what I plan to purchase next. Looking for a used one. Dad plans to haul our garden tractors on it to shows. 3-4 tractors plus some implements. I plan to use it to buy and sell junk cars. Big Gulp has the power to get the job done.

Maybe you can find most of a carcass and build the rest. With your dumpster-tech skills, I'm sure you could strip lumber from pallets, find steel at the curb, etc.

I am hoping to find one in need or easily fixed items. Tires, bearings, brakes, wiring.

Big Gulp had no problem moving one of these tonight. I made a few bucks putting her to work.
