Plastic vs oil supply. Not a real comparison. I would think a better mounting place higher and more centered on the engine would be safer. If it was a street bike i wouldnt think twice. Just throwing out a critique.

It looks good regardless

I would like one as well if you can get the to market, i just had a question, where did you get your hoses? They look alot beefier/durable than the ones that come on all of the other coolers.

im also interested in this, id probly want to mount it where the radiator would be if it were a water cooled bike. ive never had a problem with that location for radiators so it makes perfect sense to put an oil cooler there.

Please let me know how this is comming along, id rather not source tha parts myself if you have already done so.

Thanks

Is there a thermostat in this system? I cannot see one but one could be built into the cooler, I just cannot tell. I'm asking because you do not want to get to the point where the bike is over cooled. That leads to condensation in the oil, which then looks like mayo and does a horrible job of keeping metal parts apart.

only way to put it in the center is way down low or lose the front fender.

If it is centered it's doing no good as the hot air from the cooler goes to the engine fins canceling out any good the cooler would do. Also nowhere to mount it centered due to fender clearance. If you took the plastic off and held a ruler from the timing cover to the gas tank their is an inch of clearance. Unless you lay the bike down on a boulder pile the cooler will not get hurt....

i did add another hole farther out to get to a flat spot. once i have them made i may get some flat bar and make good ones but these may be just fine with a little filing and some black paint.

the other one will attach to the mount on the down tube of the frame. (middle support for the tank shrouds supports)

My OPINION is that you don't want a thermostat in the oil line either to or from the oil cooler. The engine only holds just over a quart of oil. Any thing you can do to increase the oil supply is a plus. If you have problem in cold weather with oil condensation, just cover it up with cardboard or soft plastic....ARH

Timcosby, I still have that exact cooler in my shop. Tried it for a few days but it clogs up too fast off road and is hard to clean. It also stuck out too far for my liking as i do a LOT of single track tight trails. The stacked plate cooler can be cleaned out with a twig on the trail or pressure washed.. For a street bike the cooler you have would be A-OK.

Soooooo any idea what your price will end up being. The one Tim is using is around $60.
