Figured while I had my carb out I'd take the intake horn with me to the auto parts store and see if they could match up a thermostat housing gasket to it. They found a very close match...
Gasket is made by Fel-Pro. Autozone part number is 35368. Applications on packaging are for: Ford V6 1993-2002 Nissan V6 1986-2004

Those tires look a little different to me, than my new M's tires. Mine are the stock China ones, which do not read DOT. I need to find good DOT replacements, before my inspection. I thought there was mention of Dunlop D606 tires, on a thread. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Rode mine to work this morning. First time REALLY out on the highway. BRRRR knobby tires.
I see what you guys mean about the gearing. Still breaking in so I didn't wind it out but I could use just a tad more gear I think. I'm holding off on that until I get it muddy. I like really low speed tractor power for the piddly bit of off road stuff I do. We'll see. Sprockets can be had cheap enough I might just experiment. Who was it that found a rear wheel? I kind of like the idea of swapping the knobby for a dual sport wheel already mounted. |

Agreed. its a wasted effort to try to make the bike a do-all bike as no matter how you gear for top-end, it'll always be uncomfortable.. for true road worthiness, you need a bike that can easily break triple digits if you want to cruise comfortable on the highway and have enough power to get you out of trouble (just dont have too much to get yourself into trouble).. I was ok with the 13/42 for awhile but then wanted some of that oomph back in first gear and the 14/49 is a sweet spot for me, great off-road and then enough torque to carry 6th gear

I was talking about having a second rear wheel. Set up with a dual sport tire and a road sprocket. This is just me. I don't spontaneously dart off into the woods to hit a trail or two. When I actually go offroad it means with grandkids. Meaning trailered bikes, air tank, gas can, cooler, lunch, helmets, first aid kit, etc. A certain amount of prep work is required anyway, so I have no issue with doing a wheel swap to the "fun" tire/gearing. Wife says I turn wrenches in my sleep.
Most of this bike's duty will be running around. Yes, I know a TBR7 or a Hawk probably would have better suited. The Templar just called to me. At some point I expect to hang it off the back of my RV when we go certain places. We won't be off roading and as much as I like the knobby tire it won't suit. I'd much rather swap a wheel than a tire. Front tire I'm not worried about...though now that I think of it.... |

That's the best way to do it and getting a second set of wheels from powersportsmax is not very costly. I did an email inquiry a short while back and so long as you stick with the default wheels that come with their bikes they'll sell you some as they have a default policy of not supporting putting any wheels of a different size on any bikes they sell, for safety or something, so no supermoto thoughts for street use and 18/21 for off road use. If you want supermoto wheels you will have to buy them elsewhere.
If you also leave your front sprocket alone then you can also have two different rears set up, one with the shorter gearing for off road and one with the taller gearing for street use.
