I've worn half helmets, but I prefer full face helmets, I also have a 3/4. I like doc's quote. Quote:

Advice?
Just bought a pair of Armadillo D3O gloves http://images.esellerpro.com/2189/I/...e-Gloves-1.JPG They're the right size and whatnot but are unbelievably stiff. They're made of like a soft canvass with a sticky palm grip. I know all gloves tend to loosen up/wear in but just wanted to know if anyone has/had a pair of these and their experience with them. They were supposed to be £30.99 but the shop had an offer on so managed to get them for £22.50. Too much of a good deal to pass up i thought. Thanks in advance. Culley.. |

Hey guys, I need some advice. I am on the market for a new street bike, so I have been looking into getting more gear, mostly for my girl. I came across a pretty good deal on an off-brand women's leather suit from jackets4bikes.com. It would only be worn for cruising around and going on rides down the coast with me, nothing crazy or stupid. Reviews seem to be ok but they mostly seem to talk about track days which this would NEVER see. I just want a protective suit that is not going to break the bank and protect her if something were to ever happen. Has anyone heard of this company, or had any experience with them.

First Gear, Cordora Leather Jacket with removable winter lining, 12 zipper in back to attach to riding pants, removable foam back protector, fixed elbow and shoulder pads.
Works good in weather from about 50F to 85F. Could be used in both colder and hotter weather if undergarments are added or removed. Might hold up to more then one spill. Back protector pocket is big enough to add another foam pad for added protection. Good pocket locations and good ventalation zippers.Good touring or everyday motorcycle jacket. Cons: No wet weather protection. Is not approved on most tracks. First Gear, Cordora/Leather Pants with fixed hip and knee pads and universal 12" rear jacket zipper attachment. Good protection, double codora in the seat of the pants. Fairly comfortable in weather from 50F to 85F same deal as top weather can be colder or hotter depending on undergarments. Knee pad stitching digs into skin if your not wearing long johns. No Pockets. No ventalation. No wet weather protection. No velcro knee puck attatchment points. Not approved on most tracks. Not good for the tracks, yet not comfortable enough for touring or everyday riding. Alpinestar GP-1 gloves. Pros: Top of the line Gauntlet style protection, approved for tracks. Cons: Stiff and uncomfortable for everyday riding. Dexterity is slightly sacrificed for protection. Icon Mainframe Halo Helmet. Pros: Good Ventalation, comfortable, good visability. Does not buffet even at speeds above 150mph. Cons: a little heavy.

I didn't mean to sound like a "Gear Nazi" by any means.
We are all adults and fairly free to do as we choose. Riding in and of itself is a risky proposition. And while I don't intend on trying to force my opinion of gear of anyone, I refuse to encourage any other type of riding on a public forum where new riders may be lurking. I think the responsible thing to do is advise as much saftey as possible. If someone chooses to ignore the advice, that's their choice. Not a problem for me. If I tell people it's all good to ride in jeans, however, and they return a month later showing me pics of their legs all rashed to hell, well then I'm going to feel a bit guilty. I can live with the guilt and ignore it, but I choose to simply endorse ATGATT and maybe save someone a bit of skin. And yes, it is a wee bit of a "do as I say and not as I do" type thing, as I will ride around the block in next to nothing while warming up my bike for an oil change, or similar.

ATGATT and the current temperatures are really at odds lately.
I'm now ATGATT, but it has really limited when I can ride.

Can someone tell the what the big difference between a $699 and a $69 helmet are? Both are DOT certified..
the expensive one was wind tunnel tested.. and some other things I don't suspect that will be an issue for me on a KPX250 Lifan.. I plan to do more off road, trails and just on street to get to them. or going to local store to pick up stuff which might be the most dangerous thing to do.. Not wanting to cheap out on good helmet but not sure where to look for quality at good price. looking to get bike in the oct time frame and doing my homework on good stuff to wear.. Raced MX in the late 70's into the 80's in HS and had a helmet with snap on bill, goggles and rock guard we wore outside a t-shirt (summer in NC) and jeans with MX boots.. don't ever remember having actual MX pants to wear.. have been reading all the recommendation .. Green helmet is amazon $69.. White is $699 $699 on sale https://www.jpcycles.com/product/sho...respect-helmet $699 on sale $69 .. https://www.amazon.com/Typhoon-Motor...3&sr=8-15&th=1
