It's amazing how a mere .03-.05mm's can make such a huge difference in how your bike acts.
Remember that when you when you have your valve clearances too loose, you also change your valve timing. If you degreed in your valves, you would be amazed how much your valve timings change by varying the valve clearances.....ARH

Yup, absolutely.
What was confusing about this is with the Q, the Qlink manual spec'ed it at the .07's....but the Quinqi manual (the actual manufacturer) spec'ed it at the 10 and 12. I figured I'd try the manufacturers specs for a change and ended up with poor results. I'm thinking it may be because the Quinqi is set up for the rest of the world while the Qlink was set up for EPA and CARB. Possibly different cam timing or something. Not sure....or just a type-o.

Cat scratch fever

Still in the 30's so I decided to gut the cat. Ick! I should have asked how but it seemed pretty straight forward to me. I dremeled out 3 cuts and folded the "flap" back. Thought the stuffing would pull out. No. Tried to dremel it out. Two cutting disks later no joy. Tried to cut it out with wire cutters. Whew. Got it out by hammer and chiseling out chunks at a time. About 2 hours. My friend is supposed to weld it tonight. The fun continues. Freaking winter that won't quit.

If it is not fan cooled, it won't last long in summer heat.....ARH

yea its stuck pretty good in there. for all others cut the flap at least half the pipe wide. i used a flat screw drive and hammer to loosen it from the sides of the pipe then took a pair of pliers and squeezed the cat and kept rocking it till it loosened then had to back it down into the pipe some more to get to one end then pried it out. it doesnt want to come out but it will.

Should have cut the flap larger. I did about a third. If I was doing my own welding, I would have cut around and separated the two halves of pipe. Still it's free and that's less than any store bought exhaust.

I cut mine right behind the weld and drilled most of it out with a 1/2 drill bit and hammered and chiseled the rest out. Welded it back together with my 25+ year old HF mig welder. Best $99 I've spent. I defiantly got my moneys worth out of that machine.

Well I feel better now. I had the impression that everybody was cutting the cat open and just pulling the stuffing out easy peasy. There is work involved after all. I'd like to say a little hard work won't hurt you but my wrists are sore today.

Yeah it wasn't easy but my time is free. Besides it's more fun and you appreciated the results more after its all over and done.

Dumb question but can't you just cut it out and mig in a replacement section of pipe? I would have 20 bandages and a tetanus shot on by the time I got all that serrated metal out.

That's would be the best option. I did this as a spur of the moment thing and didn't have any pipe that size laying around.
