I’m heading over tonight to play with the new welder setup. His capacitor came in today. I’m not taking the bike just yet as I don’t want to cut the exhaust up until I’m sure we can weld it back together properly.

Well, I’m taking the bike, but we’re not screwing with it just yet. lol

Cool, I like to know how the conversion worked out. Practice on some of the high grade crate angle iron the bike came in.

We practiced on a big pry bar and also some rebar.

The 3 little welds at the very top of this first picture are the Harbor Freight wire with the welder as originally configured. The rest of the welds on this piece are with Lincoln electric flux core wire and the rectifier. The welds on the piece to the right are with those two changes plus the capacitor.

The good wire and rectifier made a solid difference and then the cap made another big jump in quality. These welds are two novices screwing around outside after having a couple beers so of course they’re rough looking.

I’m definitely going to make these changes to my welder and go with an even bigger cap than he did.

It did indeed. Paul has messed around with welding a bit more than I have as he only works 2 days per week so he’s always tinkering with his vehicles, fishing, riding jet skis, traveling, etc about 5 days per week. He was extremely impressed with the changes.

I’m trying to get him to buy a Chinese enduro, but he says his motorcycle riding days are over due to the risk involved. Pansy.

On my 2nd attempt, this is what I did with a dremel. I carved the kill-switch around the mount for the new throttle-tube. The 2nd picture is a unit I found on EBay that has everything the stock unit has except the housing for the stock throttle-tube. Therefore you wouldn't have to hack into it to fit an aftermarket throttle. I bought it for $9 + $4 shipping. I'm fitting that one next to see if I like it. I know you're not having troubles yet, but perhaps you may as I know I'm far from alone. I thought maybe you could use one of these ideas.

No need to double post. I've read this in your thread.

I could see where this looks like a repeat. But the unit I found on EBay is NEW information I found AFTER that post. I ordered a unit for myself and figured the 2nd option would be more palatable for you, considering you don't have to cut anything. That's why I posted here. I'll try to be more considerate with my future posts.

I don't mean to hijack your thread, my apologies. I'm just feeling less and less foolish dumping money and time into a Chinese bike seeing that you're putting a lot of time and effort into yours. Cheers!

Hey Jerry I was wondering if you could tell me what the bolt pattern and details are for the rear sprocket on the x22r. I have a lot of parts on order for the bike I'm about to order and might as well get one of those on order too to try out.

It's the same as the JTR242 sprocket. 64mm center hole. 5 bolt pattern 96mm circle. 10.5mm diameter holes.

Yep, thanks to Jerry’s specs, my new 36 tooth sprocket just came in. It looks great. Now the question is whether I can install it correctly. lol

Knowing this bike has the CB250 like an Orion RXB and an Apollo DB-36, what do you mostly attribute the high top speeds to? Aerodynamics? The optimized CDI? Do you think this motor is cammed the same as those other bikes? I'm curious what you achieve sitting bolt upright into a light headwind.

A few things come into play.
1.The CB 250 OHC engine will rev higher rpm's than the push rod CG250. The CG250 has a single lobe cam which works great for low end power but not in the higher rpm's.
2. Aerodynamics for sure. And tucking behind the windshield give an easy 3-4 mph gain.
3.Weight. This bike weighs a little over 100 lbs less than my Hawk. Shipping weight on my Hawk was 394 lbs and the X22R was 264 lbs.
4. I found the same performance mods i did on my hawk gave me more gain on the X22R than they did on the Hawk.
5. Tire size has a lot to do with it to. Smaller wheels have less mass to spin around.
6. The stock CDI on that comes on the X22R has a higher rev limiter or no rev limiter as it will rev up past 10,000 rpm's.
7. Sitting upright it will do 75+mph. I've hit 81 mph tucked and was still wanting to creep up in speed.
8. Best part about these engines are parts from the SL230 and CRF230F will work on it. I'm planning on porting the head and either deck the head or install a CRF230F 11:1 piston and installing a CRF150F Hot Cams. The cam will increase mid to high rpm power without sacrificing low end.

I was not aware of the weight savings over the two CB powered bikes I mentioned. I think that would be the biggest part of it, as well as the smaller wheels, combined with aero. The CB Enduros seem to struggle for 70mph.

As it stands, your bike will really be cooking with a cam and piston kit. I've been following a gentleman in another group who just did the same on his DB-36 and claims the bike will power wheelie now.
