Tell em you need brushes for a Delco 10SI alternator then say it’s in a 52 Ford.

Cheesy was hoping for a shut out today but the final score was Cheesy 3, DeSoto 1.

Got the coolant drained, upper generator bracket off(pita, need to remove fan and WP pulley to get the bolt out. That’s going to be a stud and nut next week) and replaced some worn out wiring.

Freeze plug ruined my perfect game. I spent ninety minutes trying to get the damn thing out and all I got was sweaty and greasy. It would be the one that’s blocked by three oil lines, dipstick tube, oil filter canister, and steering column. I did manage to poke a hole in it and get a screw in it to pull the plug out but all I did was pull the screw out. In my defense, though, the plug has been in there for 72 years. Going to try again tomorrow, after I remove the oil filter canister. That’s gonna be messy.

It didn’t really get hot here until about 2:30. I knocked off at 3:30 when the humidity went Florida. We had a storm about two hours later and it got pleasant when that passed. But I was done. As for the ATV Kid, he was out fishing with his mom, dad, and older brother.

Plans are afoot to get a larger ATV for his older brother. Although Eli is only 7 and the ATV is for kids 3 to 8, he can look a ten year old in the eye. It’s pretty cramped for him.

Cheesy 1. DeSoto 0. Got that plug out this morning.

After seeing the amount of crud behind that plug, I think the engine will get pulled, boiled out, and rebuilt after I retire.

Did it cool off, Bruce?

We played a double header today. Second game was hard fought and it was touch and go with the DeSoto getting a walk, then stealing two bases but, luckily, was thrown out at home. Cheesy 3, DeSoto 2.

Translated, the freeze plugs showed up today. I thought getting that one out was hard, getting one back in was a nightmare. Any freeze plug I’ve dealt with in the past has been a steel cup. Put it on a socket, line it up with the hole, whack, whack, done.
The early Mopar ones are a concave disk. Nothing to hold on to. Three of the stupid things ended up behind the starter. I managed to recover two of the those. I also boogered one up installing it. I finally hit upon sticking one in the freezer for an hour or so. That one almost didn’t want to go in but I convinced it to seat.

If anyone tells me again how much easier old cars are to work on, I shall flip them off.

The 3/4” pulley for the alternator showed up today so with a bit of luck, this will be done tomorrow. Painted all the brackets Machine Gray this afternoon. I still have some 8ga fabric covered wire coming that runs from the negative battery post to the alternator stud but I’ll use some of the vinyl covered stuff I have on hand in the meantime.

Well, today has been a joke. Got everything bolted together and the alternator was a 1/4” too far forward. With a couple hour of slicing and dicing, I got everything to line up pretty close. Stock belt is now too long. Three trips to Napa resulted in still too long and too short, nothing that fit. Decided to try and get the top mount installed. Dropped my last 3/8-24 nut into an alternate universe. Said screw it and closed down the garage for the day.

Cars from the mid 50's through 1973 were pretty simple to wrench. Before and after that period, usually not easy to fix at all.

Just before I dropped the nut the last time, I think I was muttering something about “dam stupid Geismar machine”. It was time to quit for the day.
