I did let it sit before charging it. And I did charge it on the slowest setting, which is 1 amp I believe. The battery I believe is just junk. I'm going to be looking into another one soon. This one works fine if I keep it on the tender in between start ups

Same here. I got my hawk back in October 2016 and never had to put on the charger sense. But then again it doesn't sit more than a day or two with out me riding or starting it.

Does your battery tender/charger have a "Desulfate mode"?
Usually helps with those "problem child batteries" (constantly needing a charge)... have "fixed" a countless number of batteries by zapping the sulfate of the plates

ARH, what notch do you put the thing on, on the Mikuni carb pilot jet?

Those "Problem Child Batteries "!
I have one of those chargers with the "reconditioning/desulfate" features. It has saved many "bad" batteries. I have a Battery Tender Jr. for my Hawk. It has a plug that mounts on the battery. That way, I can plug it in when I get home and it's always ready when I am. I bought it at Wally World for $26. In-store it is $35, but if you go to their website it is $26.

Be careful with the desulfate mode. It can boil off the electrolyte solution and make a mess.

OK, one of us is confused, probably me. There are 3 jets in the float bowl. Pilot, needle jet, and main jet. On a Mikuni, I start out by turning the idle mixture screw (NOT the idle speed screw) out from the seated position 1 1/2 turns. Then I put the needle clip in the middle position of the slots on the needle. Then I go out and do a plug chop. I do this by getting the bike warmed up for 15-20 minutes riding it around. When it is warm, I find a road with very little traffic with a 55 mph speed limit. Then I run it up though the gears until it is wound out in top gear. Run it for a half mile or a little more like this and kill the ignition with the red button on the right side hand grip, leave the throttle wide open and pull the clutch lever all at the same time. When the bike stops, put in neutral, and pull the spark plug. If it is white, or almost white, the main jet is too lean. If it has some black on it, it's too rich. If it is a nice tan, the wide open fuel mixture is about right. This is the easy way to do it. Get the main jet right. Then the pilot jet. Then the needle height for mid-range fine tuning....ARH

It takes about an hour to activate. I would pull the battery and do that first. Then assemble the bike. It shouldn't hurt to sit over night before charging if you somehow end up in that situation.

The Wally World (N)Everstart batteries I have say to let them soak for 1.5 hours (depending on battery size) and then charge with no more than 1.5 amp charger (depending on battery size). Since I started following those directions, I've gotten great life out of them.

How is that Walmart battery working out for you? I'm really starting to get annoyed with the stock one...
