I think the global warming thing started a few years ago... It's not about how cold or warm it is where you live.

I asked Gilligan to watch the tiki torch but he fell asleep. blackbike asked a question on another thread and the answer is no. I rode my FWD Neon to the Super Walmart to get food and some things to drink on Monday after the roads were kind of clear. I was just doing my part to even out the snow.

You have to be born or lived up here for a while to know when it's safe to drive and how to do it. I saw a crashed flatbed in a snow bank that was towing a Bobcat skid steer on a trailer. It had a broken left rear axle. It looked like an over extended F350 dually from the oil fields. The three tow trucks didn't want mess with that and he probably drove the Bobcat to a motel.

Having learned how to drive in places where it snows a lot, I can certainly share the frustration of people who know how to drive in bad weather who are stuck sharing the road with people who [I]don't[I] know how to drive in bad weather. My wife and I are both competent snow and bad weather drivers, however she had to spend the night in the car on I-20 near Atlanta during the Snowpocalypse of a couple years ago because nobody else on the roads knew how to drive... The cars would try to just crawl along at 5mph or so, and get the big rigs stalled out and stuck. Once the truckers got stuck, it all went pear-shaped pretty quick. Stay frosty out there, guys!

GA, doesn't have the proper equipment for the beet juice that you apply before the rain and snow starts to freeze and didn't use salt before big Atlanta storm of 2014. I would have just said I sleeping and not answering the phone...

Ice under snow or black ice is crazy.

It's not the snow....it's the ice that follows. It's very hilly and "canyon" here. We get snow (not like yours) and it's fine to drive in. It's when it rains on that snow, then freezes that it's horrible. We had one happen last year and even the most seasoned winter drivers ended up in ditches. We had parked cars taking off by themselves. No much you can do with that without studded tires.

That's what happens here, too.

It warms up usually to rain or snow, then freezes at night. Pittsburgh is probably second only to SanFran in terms of hills, and at some point you're going to experience the joy of an uncontrolled slide.

The city isn't bad at prepping the main roads, but it's hard for them to keep up against the sometimes constatn precipitation.

Agree.

Good tires, slow speed +/-AWD will do pretty OK on snow. I'll even confess it's kinda fun, but ice is a deal breaker. Much of the time though, it's hard to see well, if at all.

i admit it, us southerners can't drive in winter, real winter conditions.

i noticed that when you see the professionals (semi s) slow down, you better wake the hell up and slow down too or you're headed for the nearest ditch or over the overpass embankment (see that for true).

ps, notice how the advertising banner on this site reads what your saying?... i wrote the word "southerners" and their is a big advertisement for birmingham-southern college(aint technology grand. yes... i have my webcam covered with a post it note )

My Wienermobile slid off the highway and I need tow... If I was a dispatcher I would have laughed so hard when that call came in and said something like "Bill Clinton is in the area".

It's not you. I think only people above the 43rd parallel really get a handle on it. It's chaos here when it snows; when it's rainy it's bad enough, and it rains all the time. Western PA drivers are okay but have little idea of following distance so they rear-end each other constantly.

That's also a big difference between So Cal and Nor Cal folks here.
Up north, we can basically handle the snow and rain without much to-do, especially after the first storm. In So Cal, the second a drop of water falls out of the sky, it's a 75 car pile up.

Well ,I finally finished up a project I have had on the go since march or April .We had a nice little 6 inches this morning so I went out and fooled with my toy and pocketed $600.00 before lunch .Its a piece of crap ,I like that ,it's also largely exactly how I got it including the rolled up newspaper holding the backside of the bondo in the fenders .I don't have $1000.00 into the whole deal and about 3 days of my time .
