Neat pic, Spud.

Shot of my 1982 Optimus 99 backpack stove boiling up some water.

Today was the first time I fired it up in over twenty years. Getting ready for an upcoming trip.

Cool pic! Is that a pressurized stove? I've made a few alky burners, just the simple penny type stoves but it always amazes me how well they work for how simple they are .

Yep, runs on white gas and need to pre-heat first.

Penny Stove? Is that the same as a pop can stove? I've made a few of those and some could boil a 10 oz can of water in less than two minutes. Others never made more than steam.

Yup, same as a pop can stove. The penny variants pressurize to supposedly give a little more heat... I've never noticed much of a difference though

Corvettes On The Columbia Car Show.

We had an excellent Corvette show in town this weekend, complete with a dinner dance and concert.

The weather was beautiful, as was Miss Linda (and my car too  ).

I didn't win a prize but I did get to take the girl home!

We had a great time. The show, the concert, the dinner, and the companionship were all excellent.

A beautiful C1 by the Cable Bridge over the Columbia River.

A C4 Grand Sport on the River. This is the same year and model as mine, but this one is blue, has white stripes, and slightly wider rear wheels.

Our friends Christina and Mark. Great folks.

Linda and a Margareta in the car. Don't worry, it was parked in the Corvette lot at the dinner. She was NOT driving!

Linda making my car look good.

There were hundreds of Vettes from all over WA, ID, OR, and BC! :P

Any '63 split windows? Was everything numbers-matching?

There was one '63 Split Window. Frame off restoration numbers matching :P . There were also a few '68-'71 427's. Those are my personal favorite Corvettes 8) . I especially like the ones with sidepipes.

Two entries were from Abbotsford. I only saw the cars and could not track down the owners. :?

Nice, Doc.

I was looking at a low mileage 1991 C4 a couple years ago and ended up, instead, buying my Wrangler for more money.

Ya see, being as flexible as 2 year old cement, I couldn't get out of the 'vette without help. Mrs. Cheesy kind of put the kibosh on it then and there. Mrs. Cheesy also hated it.

Still............

The Corvette, especially the C4 (compared to the C5's and 6's) is not an easy car to get in and out of. The newer generations are almost luxurious and practical by comparison, but they have lost some of their elemental sportiness in their comfort and complexity, IMHO.

The look of those early C3's makes me drool. THAT was the car I wanted ever since I was a kid. My (12 year) older sister dated a guy with a late 60's C3 when she was in high school and I was about 6. He took me for a ride in it and I'd never forgotten. :P

With the parking brake lever in the 91 C4 being left of the drivers seat, the, ah, possibility of, umm, snagging my, er, umm, package, as it were, upon exiting the vehicle was also a consideration leading to the purchase of the Wrangler.

I've already proven to myself that I can catch the top of my right foot on the door sill when getting out of the Jeep and execute a perfect 3 point faceplant, which is still preferable to the boys getting lanced.

That said, I wish I could have sold Mrs. Cheesy on the C4.

You know the brake lever retracts back down after being set, right? To protect the boys.
