I don’t know what’s happened with the new guy but my gut feeling is he isn’t long for GNA. When he was hired, one of the requirements is to have a passport. If not, get one. As of last Friday, it appears that he still didn’t have one. Hasn’t replied to any texts or emails, so unless something bad happened with his family, he’s gone incognito because he has no desire to do international travel.

That’s the kind of crap I don’t need, especially after yesterday’s cluster to get to Cancun. The original plan was to fly direct from Chicago. Harold wants me to meet the new guy in Miami, then fly to Cancun and hold his hand through immigration. Change my flight to do Harolds’ request and no communication with Matt. By my lonesome in Miami. Get on the plane to Cancun and we stop on the tarmac for two hours. Someone on the ground crew fcuked up and we had jet fuel leaking out the right wing tank. Had Emergency crews AND the EPA around the plane. The 737 was taken out of service and we had to wait and wait. And wait for another plane. What we were told would take 1.5 hours for another plane and crew, took almost four. I was supposed to be in Cancun at 7:30 last night. Didn’t land until one this morning and wasn’t in my hotel room until 2:30. Yuck.

And I still haven’t heard from Matt.

I’m not blaming Harold for that one. I thought it was a good idea myself.

Falkon45-Backgrounds in hydraulics, automotive DC, mechanical trouble shooting. Welding, machining, hurry up and wait, and bilingual are a plus. Be able to pull part numbers out of your ass, face palm and roll eyes silently, know when and when not to call coworkers and customers blithering idiots. Must be able to travel at a moments notice. Must be able to do end runs around bureaucracy inefficiencies to get the job done. Thick skin is also a plus.

Ahhh. So basically, just like the navy. I'm probably not a good fit, as I'm not strong with electrical, and will call everyone a blithering idiot without fail.

I have all those qualifications! Except for being able to face palm and roll eyes silently (you know how most people have a filter between their brain and their mouth? Yeah, no filter here....), know when (and when not <--- you were just joking about that part, right?) to call coworkers and customers blithering idiots. I do, however, have a very strong background in hydraulics, pneumatics (pretty much the same thing, just a different working fluid), electrical troubleshooting, and making things that go clang not go clang anymore! What I DON'T have is a willingness to go anywhere it's hot... Think they'll let me work remote?

At least it's a step in the right direction! In all seriousness, though, it's a zillion times better out here than it was in Phoenix.

So, I’m not working in Cancun, but outside of a small town known as Valladolid, Yucatán state. I’m about 100 or so miles from the coast in the Mayan jungles. It’s freaking hot but the humidity is a lot less than the Great Lakes.

I wish I could say I was enjoying myself, but Beaufort’s fcuk ups followed me down here. I went ballistic after I was called on the carpet by the customer about how badly the machines were built. Thankfully, one of the Mexican coworkers stepped in and calm things down. He actually told the guy that I was more pissed off about the machines than he was because I was ‘guaranteed’ that everything was perfect. I was on the customers side.

I sent a scathing, no punches held email to the entire management staff, with pics and videos of their definition of ‘Perfect’ and me setting fire to it. I was up until 1am composing the email before it was sent. My Mexican coworkers followed my email with their own, in the same tone. I included every fcuk up out of Beaufort for the last five years that I spent months making right.

Normally, I’d get a reply within a few hours from Harold saying, “Ok, thanks.”, which means he didn’t read it. Today, it’s been crickets. But, I heard through my paid informants (I usually buy them lunch), that the entire production staff was called into a very long and loud session. Personally, I’d buy tickets to see the production staff, lead, and manager led out the door.

To pour salt on the wounds of everyone I made butthurt, there are two machines here that Jason, Inky Tim, and I built in Elgin about 2012. I threw some operators in them and let them play. They couldn’t believe how much better my ten year old machines worked than the new ones. It’s because I test every system in each machine several times until I’m happy with it. That little bit went out in this afternoon’s email.

As far as Valladolid is concerned, it has its rundown areas, its well to do areas, a bustling downtown area, and many great places to eat. I had my first margarita made with Mezcal Monday night. I’ve had several more.
