Update

So I was able to get my bike running by jumping the starter solenoid with a screwdriver, but the electric start won't work otherwise. This led me to believe that there might be an issue with the electric start switch itself, however when the engine is running and I press the ignition switch, I can hear the starter motor engage. Also, the cutoff button on the remote does not work... this is all very strange.

Additionally, the kick start does not work unless the motor is hot. So basically, my only option to start the bike currently is by carrying a screwdriver... this is obviously a problem. Does anyone have any thoughts or insight?

I've been speaking with APSCUSA and they told me they would have a "technician" reach out to me, but I haven't heard from anyone yet...

Sounds like it might be a safety switch. Does the neutral light come on when in neutral? Check clutch safety switch is connected. Have you tried starting with the clutch pulled? Just thinking out loud.

The neutral light does come on. I pull the clutch in when attempting with the kick starter but it doesn't make a difference when I jump the solenoid.

I'm not sure what you're referring to with the clutch safety switch - is this part of the clutch lever assembly?

Yes there are 2 wires on the clutch lever assembly. Try unplugging them and hook them together to by pass the switch. if it doesn't start then that rules out that switch. I would also try bypassing the remote alarm. Somewhere on here there are instructions on how to do that. Its a matter of unplugging the box and connecting two wires. Do a search and you will find it. I posted some information on it a while back. Just don't remember where.

I will give this a shot this evening and let you know how I make out. Thanks for your suggestions.

Since you can't stop it with the remote. Have you though about checking the battery in the remote to make sure it is good? I know sounds like a stupid question but sometimes the simple things can make you go crazy. lol The alarm system may have it lock so that you can't start it and have to use the remote to enable I to start.

I know that the indicator light on the remote lights up when I press any button, I'm assuming that means its in working condition.

So the remote is not working with the alarm system? You may have a bad connection on the alarm itself. I would try bypassing the alarm system 1st to rule that out.

I'll have to look at that as well. Too bad these things don't come with a wiring diagram...

I tried all of these, still no luck with the electric start without jumping the starter solenoid... very strange. The solenoid itself seems to be working properly - I can hear it click once I jump the terminals and have the engine running.

I tried unplugging the starter solenoid and testing the connection with a multimeter with the engine turned off. When I engage the starter button, there appears to be no current going to the solenoid. Normally, that would lead me to think that the starter switch is faulty, or there's a bad connection somewhere, but again I can hear the starter motor running when I press the starter button while the engine is running. I am at a loss to explain any of this and I'm starting to wish I had never ordered this damn bike...

Disconnect the remote / Alarm pieces.

The bike needs to be in neutral or the clutch pulled in to turn starter over.

Is there a switch mounted by the stand?

I would start disconnecting / bypassing switches until I found the issue.

If the starter does turn over when you jump the solenoid then you just need to trace back from the starter switch to the solenoid.

You must have continuity from the starter switch to the solenoid for it to turn the starter over.

From what i'm gathering is the starter is engaging while the engine is running. Sounds like low voltage to the solenoid and the relay is not engaging or just a bad solenoid. Once it's running it has enough voltage to engage. Could be something simple as a bad ground. Check all grounding points. What's the voltage on the battery? Have you given the battery a good charge? Don't give up.

This is why I now understand that sometimes a debugged lightly used china bike sells for more than a brand new (possibly damaged) delivered in the box unit.

Yes, and check all of the grounds while you're at it. A weak battery ground can cause insuffient amperage to activate the starter. On a new machine, it is not unusual to have paint on the frame preventing a good ground. Make certain that the battery ground is in first class condition, or you will have all kinds of problems...ARH
