Thanks for posting the great photos, Yoo. Why did you remove the fuel pump?

Thank you, Sir. Did you replace the filter with a new filter, or did you clean the old filter? If you cleaned the old gasoline filter, what method did you employ to clean it?

I had my fuel pump out yesterday - I was thinking that the fuel level gauge was on that assembly (it is on my Guzzi and F800GS). I wanted to bend the arm.
I noticed that the filter is bent at a right angle against the bottom of the tank as shown in the photo. I think this fold makes 3/4 of the filter inoperable. I tried to rotate the filter to a more functional position but it would not move with moderate force, and I didn't want to break it.

Last night I opened the RX3 up for surgery. I had 650 miles on the bike and it was time to adjust the valves. I found that the intakes were a little tight at .004 so I loosened them up to about .007. The exhausts were at .006 so I let them ride for now.
Today I rode about 200 miles around the Green Swamp and Withlacoochee State Forest. Here is my RX3 along the Withlacoochee River.

Doom.... Any trouble with the bolts on the underneath side of the tank being only finger tight? Someone else on here found theirs to be loose.

Dang it I knew there was something I was supposed to check out while I was under the tank. While I had the bike apart I did find why my horn seemed to only work when it wanted to. The wire disconnects were too loose. I squeezed them tighter with my pliers and they are now holding in place when I seat them.

Would you mind telling me how much extra slack you think there was on the cables and lines after your install? I've been this close to pulling the trigger on the same bar, but in High. I need more stand up room.

More farkles
In the last few days I have done the first service. While doing the oil change I added a quick drain. If you do this you will need the 16mm version. It's about 1/2 the price of the kit that CSC sells.
Next I swapped out the stock chain for a DID X-ring model. Joe talked about the stock chain only lasting about 6K miles and I figured the stock chain must not be O or X ring. Letting it go now would slowly erode the sprockets too so I made the move early and will keep the stock chain as a spare. It turns out that, at least for the '16 models, the chain is O ring. Next I installed a controller for heated gear. Even this time of year it can get chilly and I'm spoiled with a heated liner. The controller is mounted on my GPS mount so it's within my line of sight and easy reach with my left hand. Finally, it's nice to know what the electrical system is doing. I have a few micro voltmeters lying around and now there is one on the bike. Note it's in a protected location...lower right of the photo. Almost forgot, the tall seat came in today. It looks like this might do the trick for making the bike more comfortable on a trip. If the weather clears I'll give the seat and new farkles a test ride. Peter Y. |
