Ultimate break in ride!

Took the Pitster Pro for its maiden ride to an area filled with sand, slickrock, slot canyons, moguls, rough single track, 2-3 foot ledges and just about every obstacle you can imagine. Motorcycle heaven.

The purpose was to break it in, see some cool stuff, and see just how this bike does right out of the box. Everything is still stock except the rear tail that was replaced. Because of the rough nature of these trails I pulled the rear view mirrors off.

We rode for a solid 6-7 hours, only stopping to rest occasionally. Here is the bike just off the trailer to set the scene:

About to drop into the first wash:



This was about 10 minutes through a sandy area and a mile or so of deep whoops. Bike was running good. Idle quality was getting noticeably better.

This was also a shake down run for my buddies bike. He spent all winter building a super-lite xr200-230 hybrid. It scaled at an amazing 210 lbs!

We stopped fairly often to look for loose parts, rubbing or an other issues that crop up with new bikes.

Single track heaven

This is the entrance to "The Tubes"




Here is a video my buddy took on a steep drop into a slot canyon. Hard to see the bottom was water about 3 feet deep.



I wanted to post this for 2 reasons.

1. To show that I am way too hefty for the rear spring. All geared up I weigh in at 270 lbs. (I carry more water and tools than most...)

2. If you hear that "POP" it was the motor backfiring. It did this a lot early in the day, but seemed to get better as the motor broke in/adjusted itself.

As the motor broke in the bike just got better and better. PLENTY of power for anything. Crazy fast when we wicked it up.

Slickrock next.

Not many action pictures... we rode pretty hard and its tough to take pics all day.

After a fun morning in the slot canyons we hit some high speed fire roads and found our way to "Mary's Trail". This trail is an amazing loop though some of the most scenic slickrock. It is so steep in places that it defies belief that it can be ridden by mere mortals. Going off the wrong ledge could lead to a 400-600 foot drop. So, the local clubs paint white markers along the route to keep folks a little safer.


Pictures just can't do these scenes justice. The area this looks across is so immense, but it loses all scale here.

Thumbs Up First impression of my LXR 250 EFI.

For a stone stock bike straight outta the box, I can say this bike is thus far a great bike. Not a great bike for it's price. Not a great bike for a Chinese bike. It stands on its own as a great bike.

The trails we rode were extreme. Harsh rock ledges, 3 foot whoops for miles, technical ledges and drop-offs, big climbs. Hard to document it all. The bike handles great out of the box. I did bottom the rear suspension out a few times (ouch kidneys), but I am a fat guy on a little bike. A new rear spring would fix that. With my 32" inseam I can flat foot this bike as it is. For anyone lighter than 220lbs this bike might be perfect. Especially as a trail bike.

Even with the soft spring the bike worked well. I'm no pro rider, hell, I'm not very good. The front end tracked better than my CR/XR hybrid. I really like the front forks. They soaked up the punishment and kept the bike sure footed. I had intended to do some compression and rebound adjustments but it was close enough that I never bothered. It will get done soon, though.

The motor was a positive surprise also. The concern was whether or not this had enough low end to pull slow through technical stuff without stalling. It did much better than I expected and stayed in the power when I asked it to. The EFI was also a worry. I have increased confidence after this trip. The bike just got better with every mile. The tuning is very good and this bike flat out rips. It will go far faster than I will ever need to. 6th gear runs on fire roads were stable and the bike pulled easily to near redline. I couldn't read the speedo as my eyes were watering too bad.

On one section of fast loose corners I did a 3rd gear wheel spin that sent me sliding sideways in a bad way. I let off and the bike recovered beautifully. Handling in these "off" situations rivals my 300XC. (Which I sold a few years back)

Blah blah blah. I know. Just trying to answer any questions someone might have.

Excellent pics and thanks for the review! Looked like a real fun day.
I'm getting real curious now as to why the PP NC250 motor is rated at more HP than the RX3 and also seems to deliver some mid-range power or grunt that you had mentioned.

I've thought about that; perhaps the fact that the RX3 has to pass stricter emissions?

It would be interesting to compare the camshafts. Seems like the most likely place to make it different. I'm sure the wide open exhaust pipe on the LXR helps, too. It is a bit too loud for me. FMF-Q4 coming up.

I'm thinking possibly all three. The PP not needing CARB Approval, cam timing and injection mapping to bring it all together.

I have a far more open exhaust on my RX3 and it helped "a little maybe" but nothing to write home to mom about. After riding Mrs. 2LZ stock RX3, I may just go back to the stock pipe and quiet it down a bit. Sometimes experiments don't always reap the hopeful benefits.

What's the valve adjustment intervals according to the manual?

The only manual that came with the bike are for the Kayo fuel injection system. Nothing about the motor at all, so I am going off what I am reading in the RX3 forum.

That bike looks like a pretty serious step in build quality, I guess the equivalent to the RX3 Cyclone. Glad it's working out for you - it looks great.

Surprised about the lack of a manual for the engine. Watch the valves; I understand they're quite needy on the RX3's motor.
