I was at the CSX Hamlet Yard yesterday. Spent last night in Raleigh. The pollen has been killing me.

Usually when I walk into a rural hydraulic shop, almost any rural hydraulic shop, and ask for BSPP threaded fittings, people look at me like I have boogers hanging from my nose.

Something must have happened this morning at the office. The CE has been uncharacteristically nice to me today, even gave me his cell phone number and told me to call him direct with engineering issues, instead of going through the office phone system. We'll see how long that lasts.

At this point, whether it's an honest effort to start getting things done right or just to kiss my ass to keep me quiet, I'm past caring. I have 11 weeks left to go and 2 of those weeks are vacation.

God, I hate flying during spring break. Airports are zoos to start with, more so at this time of year. Monday, it took me longer to get from the parking lot to the American terminal than it took to get from home to O'hare. Because the garage was full, I had to park in one of the remote lots and take a shuttle bus. The capacity of the normal O'hare shuttle bus is 39. There had to be 60, with a lot of luggage, on the bus I waited 45 minutes for.
My 1st class upgrade streak ended at 13 yesterday, so I was back in the middle of the bus. The pointy end is better. I had a 300lb woman next to me in the middle seat that must have been on her very first flight. She couldn't sit still and kept yelling to her dad who was a couple rows up from her. Glad to get off that plane. First world problems.

Flying to Denver Monday, so time to start another run.

Think how fun it's gonna be on that first Monday morning after you retire! Just lay in bed and realize you don't have to be anywhere you don't want to be. That's how it was when I retired from the Army.

OK, Plan B. Cheesy runs away and takes up with a bleached-blonde Las Vegas chorus line floozy. (Take the Ural, it's the coolest bike.)

Then he realizes his mistake and comes crawling back to his wife--only to discover she has taken up with a door-to-door encyclopedia salesman. She demands he complete his honey-do list before she will consider taking him back. Cheesy thinks about it.....

Right now, the only honey-do thing on her list is to replace the carpeting on the first floor of the house with hardwood or something else I have no interest in. Told her she could have my upcoming $5k bonus if she hired someone else to do it and left me completely out of it. Benefits would be that it would be done correctly, quickly, and without a lot of anger, swearing, and tools flying.

It’s finally happened. I’ve developed ‘Short Timers Disease’. My canned responses to requests from my overlords are as follows:

They may start keeping me at home more anyway because of the jump in airfare. I’m in Denver this week and the price from when I was here in February went up $150. I’m back here next week and the price went up another $150 over this week.
