The critical sidecar measurement appears to be the center of the sidecar wheel being 9" ahead of the rear axle.
I envision maybe a "train" of shopping carts, all held together with bungee cords..... a broken "D" type shovel handle (or a shovel) as a tow bar, maybe a set of those rear magnetic towing lights, and calling it a trailer! There you go.... make a movie of that! |

That's an idea. Probably find a shopping cart in the scrap pile.

Got my parts. Everything says Honda and Made in Japan. Now just have to wait until Friday to put it together.
I took it for a ride yesterday. I don't know for sure, but it only felt like top end was about 45mph. Also head some noise from the variator pulley. Thinking that a new belt and cleaning/regreasing the roller weights made be on the priority list.

Kato, I recommend that you investigate sliders instead of rollers. The design is supposed to allow the mass to travel further, which apparently results in higher RPM. Lighter sliders also increase the constant engine speed.
They're super cheap on eBay.

My research shows that lighter equals faster take off with reduced top end and heavier gives more speed, but you lose on the take off and hill power. I will probably stick with stock or maybe slightly lighter. Need to see what the performance is like first. A new belt may be all I need.

Chances are the belt is worn... chances are too that the rollers are "flat spotted" and not rolling quite like they should.
The jury is out here if you should grease (or lubricate) the rollers. Lubricated rollers attract belt dust, it seems to be a dammed if you do, dammed if you don't situation. You do have the benefit of a dust shield, not seen in other makes besides Honda, but most seem to take that off to try and get a little extra travel. Clean-up of the faces (and making sure they are smooth, without ridges) is important. If you find the top width of the belt not much different (between the new and the old) the take up spring (in the driven assembly) should be replaced. Best for the cheapest: Athena. Athena belts are cheaper than OEM (if your scooter is listed) and at least the same, or better quality. I have tried kevlar belts and found them only to be more expensive. |

Reading up on the sliders/rollers I found alot of info. I am leaning towards a light lube. Just enough to keep from rattling.
Looks like cleaning the surface really well and giving it a polish will help. I found two sizes. 799x19x28 and 818x19x28. The first size is common on ebay for the ch150. The second I found by googling the honda part number. http://www.scooterpartsplace.com/805...sterday-1.aspx

I'm not convinced a "polish" is in order, I go for a "brushed" look (more of a pre-polish), rather than shiny. To each his/her own.
It won't "rattle" with the right size of belt...... remember there is no "clutch function" (the clutch being in the driven package), the belt should, at all times, be "engaged", keeping pressure on the rollers......unless the rollers are worn, or flat spotted. Belt size breakdown: For example: 818x19x28 818: outside length 19: is the side chamfer (beveled edge) in degrees 28: width (at the top) I prefer OEM, unless the price is stupid, followed by Athena. Yamaha OEM is $40 here, Athena $20. |
