Almost always you can drop a tooth on the front with the stock chain unless it was worn out to begin with. Even then some will remove a link or two but I try to not do that.

One tooth off the countershaft will make a decent difference. YMMV but I think on bikes I've done the math on in the past it was about 11%.

You can keep your existing rear sprocket, but if it's worn out, it will quickly wear out the new chain and countershaft sprocket.

BTW, you can go as low as 12 teeth on the countershaft sprocket and make a wheelie machine.

-Is this identical or equal to the stock jets in the PZ30?

I'm not saying that you can change to a 12 tooth countershaft sprocket without shotening your chain; you will most likely need to shorten it. I'm only saying that you can safely go as small as 12 teeth (11 teeth is too small for the chain to properly articulate).

I presume that the jets I recommended are larger than the Keihin jets, but that's not the real point. As you say, you want to jet for a larger engine (your bike is actually closer to 230cc, not 250cc). Try the jets I recommended first, and go larger as necessary. If you have a muffler with no restriction and the new air filter, you might need to go as high as 115 main and 30 slow. The idea is to have the air and fuel in just the right proportions to make maximum power.

There is no tuning necessary on a carb like this, except to set the idle to a low speed that will still idle and set the pilot mixture screw for a smooth transition. You'll see when you get your new carbs that the slow jet and main jet simply unscrew; nothing to it. The pilot mixture screw is responsible for the transition from slow jet to main jet without bogging. Just gently tighten the pilot mixture screw all the way and then loosen it 1.5 turns. Let us know how that works.

For us to guide you with sprockets, we need to see them. If you remove the front sprocket and take a pic, we can go from there.

thanks a bunch, i just need install the jets, set the pilot screw to your recomended specs, and plug it in and set the idle.
should i set the idle when the bike is cold or warm?

Yes, final adjustments to the carb should be performed when the engine is warm.

Here's what I think you have for a front sprocket, but you'd need to remove it and measure it to be sure:




You can get the above sprocket in 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 or 17 teeth. I'm guessing that your chain is a 428.

I don't recall seeing a thread on adjusting the throttle cable; do you have a specific question? I haven't seen anything on the hydraulic clutch yet.

i just wrote to the Chinapartdepot, and asked if they had sprokets that they were sure would fit my ride...

The sprocket I posted a pic of is easily found at your local motorcycle shop, and it will cost around $12.00-$15.00. It's from an XL125.

The rear sprocket that is pictured in the link will not likely fit your bike; only the front one will.

thats great, i really didnt want to buy a sproket from china. i thought it was my only option....

I will be stopping at my local bike shop to buy and order some more goodies!
