My new true blue KPX

It's probably Japanese anyway, or maybe they farm it out to the Chinese to save some money. Maybe the packaging will at least tell you where it was made, or the parts guy might know.

Installed the smallest HF case available on my luggage rack, the Apache 1800. It easily holds all the tools I would want to carry on a regular basis, with room to spare. https://www.harborfreight.com/1800-w...ack-64550.html
The larger cases would of course hold more, but I already have a large box. This lets me carry tools in a smaller container, and comes off easily, two screws, so I can mount the big box. It's on there sideways to accommodate the various lugs on the big box's mounting plate. The latches seem secure, but I also used a twist tie in one of the two padlock holes. The Apache boxes could easily be mounted to the stock luggage rack with a couple of straight mending plates and normal fasteners. I use stainless steel screws, washers and nylock nuts.

Pic 2 is the tools in the Apache, including a needle-nose pliers in lower left. Pic 4 is what is in the stock tool pouch. Tossed the stock wrenches, but my good 13mm does not fit in the stock tool holder. I will probably get one of those tube tool holders to replace the tiny stock one. All the stuff in the tool pouch would also fit in the Apache.

Also installed the Coleman MadDog ATV seat cover a la Jerry, due to an unfortunate lack of built-in padding. Haven't ridden it yet but am sure it will be a big improvement. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006JMK7N8...roduct_details

I got shorted the 2 allen wrenches. But for $1.99 I can get a whole set at Harbor Freight to add to my kit.

I also was shorted the two allen wrenches, but scrounged around and found some loose ones just laying around in one of my tool boxes.

Hey guys! I’m thinking of doing the 14t front sprocket change. Seems like the stock 108link chain gets a little tight, would a 110-link help this?

Yes, and you could even go with a smaller rear if you wanted to raise the gearing a little more. That would move the wheel back slightly from its extreme forward position. I just bought a JT 39 tooth rear, and will install it later this week along with a new 108 link O-ring chain.

Do we know of a rear sprocket that will fit the kpx? I was originally looking for a 39T but wasn’t sure which one would fit so I figured I’d do the front sprocket since that one is known.

An important mental health public service announcement:
The black plastic front side covers are attached with three fasteners, and various tabs and posts. If you do not use the upper rear phillips screw on the forward covers, you will not need to remove the luggage rack and seat to get the side covers off. This is true for both sides. Take that screw out, row out into the deepest part of a nearby lake, and throw it in. You will feel much better.

Discovered that my KPX also did not have a spacer for the exhaust mount, to keep the tire from contacting the exhaust. The tire looked OK though. Pulled the mounting bolt and went to Ace to get a longer replacement. IIRC it was an M8x1.25, and 45mm long. They also have stainless steel spacers, I got one that was 1/2" long. Worked perfectly. Also used a lock washer and blue Loc-tite.

Oh, I thought about leaving those screws out. But thought about it after i put the seat back on. They are staying off when i do the valve adjustment.

A couple of days ago I went out to start my KPX, since it was in the 60s and I hadn't ridden it since last fall. It didn't start, i.e. no juice. Figured "Well ok, that's to be expected after so long a break. I'll get out the charger in a couple of days." Monday is supposed to be 75.

So today I went out to charge it. Turned the key to unlock the forks, then one more to see if it would show any life at all.

Noticed there is one more position clockwise to turn it.....did so. Dash came to life. Pushed the black button. It roared to life.

I blame you guys. When I posted my no-start in the Da Winter Blahs weather thread, no one said, "Hey Tom, just in case you are a flaming dumbass with fairly advanced Alzheimer's, try turning the key one more notch to the right."

Finally got it out today and put about 10 fun miles on it. Temp got up to 75F today. I'm sure the battery appreciated the charging. Tomorrow it's back to normal March temps, but this will hold me for a while.
