I went down to the Honda dealer today to check on the XRE 300, the salesman said they won't be sold in Peru, both the XR 250 Tornado & CBX 250 were in the showroom and discounted. I liked the CBX 250 a lot, great Honda quality and $4120 out the door, the drawback for me though is no fuel injection.

Well, that sounds like a great price for your area. I really really like FI but it tacks on the better part of a grand. Also, a carbureted Honda is always good to have. The FI's self adjusting properties are awesome when riding through diverse elevations and tempratures such as you do but the carb will be fine.
I still can't get over the difference between my carbureted YZ and Roger's FI KX when we switch back and forth between the two. Still, the price difference between our bikes was very substantial.

Doc, My amigo, Ron, checked the Honda prices in Quito, the CBX 250 sells for $6667 & they get almost $8500 for the XRE 300 (there is a 80% import tax in Ecuador). I'm thinking the 300 would sell for around $6000 if it was available here. I'm wondering why the Lima dealer has lowered the prices on the 250 XR & CBX, I think it possible that they want to clear them out because the new models are coming (maybe wishful thinking).
Spud, no the CBR250R is not available here but what a beautiful motorcycle!

I've been here in Iquitos for few days (on the Amazon in NE Peru) and have seen several of these on the road, thought I'd post some photos. Both of these are water-cooled 250 cc motos with shaft drive. Interesting technology to say the least, the red one has a leading-link front suspension, otherwise they looked identical.

I don't know what this is but it is really different. There is a diesel engine under the front seat, a pulley is attached and it runs a metal belt to a second pulley that is attached to some kind of gearbox, a drive shaft runs from that gearbox to a rear differential My guess it was built here in Iquitos but I don't know that for sure.

What a HUGE radiator! That thing is made to work that's for sure. The Earles type fork is also very strong.

The shaft drive trikes are very interesting! As with FastDoc, I was also impressed with the size of the radiator! 8O As always, thanks for sharing photos of your interesting discoveries, OG.

Maybe I should build one. Thanks to Azriel Strife, I have a 400cc Honda twin engine that needs a good home, and that would be perfect.

I see a rear axle from maybe an old corolla or datsun. Some tubing. Donar cycle frame. Honda 400 engine. You're almost there.
