I heard back on the Husky forum. The consensus, as we expected, is to go with a 6 speed 4S rather than the WR300 if I wanted to D/S it. The 511's are also $5,000 (more like $6,000 OTD but that's still fair) so Roger and I will make a road trip (air trip) to the Seattle area to look at them.

What Husky forums did you check out? Did the Husky owners have anything to say about fuel pump problems?

This was the Husky sub-forum at Thumper Talk. No mention EFI issues but its a regular Keihin EFI unit and well supported I'm sure. Not too worried there.
I have a call in on this 511 demo 'new' for a little less than $5,000. I'll see about the bogus fees when they call me back. Even with $500 in BF's it is still a bargin, at $3,000- $3,500 less than the KTM...

That's a good price for sure. I don't think the EFI computer causes problems. I just heard a rumor the fuel pumps cause problems; I don't know if it's true.
Please keep us updated! Spud

I will keep you up to date .
I'm not a very motivated buyer as I have a very nice bike in the KLX but this does look like it may be a good deal and a good chance to upgrade. Also I have someone (a friend of Roger's) interested in giving me top dollar for the Kawasaki. I'm 48. I've been blessed with good health but I'm not getting any younger and who knows how much longer I'll be able to ride hard. It may be decades, but maybe not. I want to enjoy the ride as much as I can while it lasts. 8)

I just got off the phone with the Husky dealer in Seattle.
The TXC511 I have been looking at is a demo. Sounds fine but it was not a dealership demo but a factory demo. It was tested/raced by a motorcycle magazine or three... There is no telling what it has been through, but it does look a tad rough around the edges. On the other hand it's a dirtbike and they soon all look rough around the edges. It is also $5,900 OTD, plus another $200-$300 for me to dualsport it. I'll mull it over...

So it is really a used bike.

Yes.
It comes wirth a new bike waranty and was never titled but it has been used, and in what manner and for how many hours no one knows. I've read magazine test reports before so it's safe to assume it was not babyed and/or broken in carefully and I'm pretty sure it was raced. :? Or, it was ridden a few times and sent back. No way to tell. :?: Any used bike is a bit of a gamble when you don't know the seller, so this one is no different. The price reflects the risk so it's still a fair deal, but I am now less than motivated to drive the 3+ hours to seattle to check it out.

If it sounds too good to be true, it's probably too good to be true. :(
