Dusted off the 55 year old Raleigh Superbe 3 speed and took it for a spin around the neighborhood. First time bicycling in two months. We're both kind of creaky.

I ended up clearing out all but one of the bikes in wake of the separation. Sold the Triumph, Supercycle Xti and the now ex wifes beach cruiser. She took her bike with her so the only one remaining is the Supercycle Rush i bought last summer which i have yet to throw a leg over this season.
I might end up building a bike over the summer/fall. Likely a 5-7 speed with single sprocket crank. Not sure what wheel/tire size yet though.

I have the Giant Simple Single cruiser. I cannot remember the last time I rode it.

Dragged home an old Dyno Crestline tandem yesterday. Nowhere near top o’ the line, but not a Schwinn Twinn bottom feeder, either. 21 speeds, of which five will be used; Sram gear set w/gripshift that bogie doesn’t like, V-brakes, Alex rims, Shitmano hubs. Definitely needs new tires. Mrs. C can keep the sofa in the stoker position, I’m going to dump the padded Bontrager saddle up front for something like a B67 and replace the steel handlebars with aluminum. Mrs. C has been complaining about her weight and being out of shape, so this might help. Though I yet to get her into the tandem kayak. There’s always an excuse.

So got Mrs.C out on the tandem for a very short mile and a half ride this morning. She doesn’t hate it. Albeit, short, there were some climbs and one 24 mph downhill.
I’ve done a couple of solo three mile rides on it to get it dialed in. I’m pleasantly surprised on how nice it rides. The brown Bontrager saddle got yanked after the first ride. There’s so much padding in it that it felt like my skivvies were bunched up. I’m not too thrilled with the replacement I put on, but it ain’t the Bontrager. So, we’re going to try a short ride everyday if it isn’t raining to get her used to cycling again then maybe haul it, along with the kayak, in the trailer when we go camping.

So, the tandem has accumulated another 0.6 miles since the last posting. All of that is from moving it in and out of the garage to get it out of my way. Mrs.C can always come up with an excuse NOT to do something. You should have heard the excuses about NOT going out to see a movie that she wanted to see.
Anyway, I told you that to tell you this. I met with a couple of buddies this morning and did a 27 mile bike ride. I rode my almost 40 year old Raleigh. Nice ride, ended up walking one hill cuz there just wasn't a big enough cog on the back. Had a nice lunch. In 1990, I rode in a 24 hr time trial and knocked out 302 miles. Sounds impressive, but was only good enough for something like 32nd place. The next day, I mowed my lawn, washed the car, took the kids to a movie. Since I got back to the house after today's ride, I haven't been able to get my ass off the couch.

Yeah, Cheesy, that stuff is amazing. I should have used it before biking.

I'm still breaking in that new Brooks B17. Even with padded bike shorts, the last three miles were painful.

I wish I could get my wife on a bike. She was riding my Trek in AZ a couple years ago and went down in gravel. She lost a little skin, but she hasn't ridden since. The Trek is a vintage MTB, and I ride it almost every day when in AZ.
In ND I usually ride a Bianchi hybrid MTB.

Well, gripe time.
I received a Trek Bicycles Christmas catalog in today's mail. Didn't ask for it. In my plethora of bicycles, I have two Treks, a nineties 830 AL and an early teens kids bike for the grandkids. What I saw today for prices, I know I'll never own a new one. $15K and(sounding like my Dad here)can't put a kickstand on it. Even $4K is nutso in my book unless it's a custom handmade for me Reynolds/Columbus/Ishawata tubed touring bike(have one and it was nutso). Jeez, there is even a $860 electronic dropper seat post. I guess I spent too much time riding 30 to 70 year old bikes while smelling the roses to see the world passing me by. Gripe over.

I hate thieves. My wife's bike was stolen off our patio sometime last week. It was a cheap Walmart bike which she hardly ever rode, but stealing it off the patio is an invasion. Now my wife and all our neighbors are paranoid. My Trek bike that I ride every day was still in the car port. We live in a gated community in AZ and the neighbors patios almost touch ours.
