Now that's a handy carrier without looking like a full piece of luggage strapped on the tank. I really like the GPS pocket...very cool!

And my luck again with me. First, the burst pipe of the cooling system. Then thundered the gear box on 4, 5 and 6 gears. And if the first problem I could solve myself, then the second gave the motorcycle to the service. Unfortunately I have now almost no time and no need for pullers complete disassembly of the engine. But the transmission was only 10 thousand km (about 6,200 miles, the first time I had to change it after a bad situation in which was broken one of the teeth removed the protective arc, the stock box and the foot gear were bent. but I remained intact)


Periodically after frequent breakdowns, there is an urgent desire to change to a KTM or BMW

what the zong was made for

the tourists have invaded so i headed to national forest were the zong thrives it's a little hazy out and pictures may be also i was being eaten by black flies

Removed 6 bolts and Presto: no side cases or rear crash bars!
22.5 lbs. less( including my Coyote Trips spare gas tank) and ready for mountain forest trip next week.

One of these days to me have disassembled the motor of a motorcycle. It looked sad.
The bearing of the output shaft completely collapsed. We found only a few balls in the engine. The oil channels are clogged with metal shavings. On photos:
1) Garbage in the engine
2) Outer ring of the bearing in the engine
3) Bearing inner race. He jammed on the shaft.
4) Outer ring after removing from engine. The ring already had a crack and after the extraction collapsed.
There are also multiple scratches on the oil pump. One of the shift forks has deformations from temperatures and as a result of friction. After the failure of the bearing, the shaft lay on the shift fork. I hope to repair the motorcycle by the end of the month.

Thanks for sharing the information and excellent photos, Rus. How many kilometers did you ride the engine before the failure? Where were you riding when you noticed the damage?

My run to date is slightly less than 20,000 km (12,500 miles approximately). I rode along the asphalt road, when I heard a rumble, a thud and noise from the engine. As far as I can remember the theory of machines and mechanisms, the bearing resource in the automotive industry is 2500-10,000 hours.So these damage and destruction of the bearing are very strange and unpleasant for me.

Rus... so sorry for the engine

Do you feel like there would have been anything different that you could have done to have prevented this? I know you don't have a crystal ball to determine this , rather, would more frequent oil changes have helped this or do you believe it was just the udder failure of the bearing ?

You do sound determined to get this up and running asap.

Gearing and OCS

As much as I like the 13 tooth sprocket, for my usage, it did seem a tad short. I don't use the RX3 for a trail bike, I have Q for that. Both Mrs. 2LZ and I use them more as "a comfy Ninja 250 that can also do gravel roads".

So I swapped back to the stock 14 tooth countershaft sprocket, then removed the stock 44 on the rear and mounted the 45 (had to paint it black, of course). My biggest complaint about the stock gearing was the amount of clutch slippage to get it rolling in first gear. Hopefully just growing one tooth on the rear will accommodate that while still maintaining the more relaxed open road speed. I'm currently awaiting a new sprocket retainer washer (half dozen) from CSC to complete the project. The little nub broke off of the stock one just after changing it once. I suggest that everyone keep these handy.

I also finally came to a suitable end of my (never ending) OCS situation. I ended up putting it all back on, in the "unofficial" position so the hose doesn't kink....then I ran it out the bottom with a filter on the end. I ran it across the motor to keep it away from the chain....and high enough not to risk smacking anything with it. We don't do deep water so that's not a concern (I also have spares). Also, if it does drip, it's dripping to the side of the rear tire so I don't run over it. I think I'll keep it this way for a while.

just got my 13 tooth

It took a whopping 2 days to get to VT (thanks CSC), and another 30 minutes install/chain adjust.... 10 minutes for the sprocket. That includes listening to the radio, sipping a switchback (local brew) and wiping the bike down.

Now with any luck I'll have a little more 'umphh' up the hills around here, and better off road/dirt road'abiltity. If it were'nt for the torque wrench and blue loktite it'd be an easy one to take on a road trip.

Muffler/Gearing

Kind of a double post but I mounted another muffler on the RX3 today. I stole it off of Mrs. 2LZ TT250. Between this improved breathing and the new (14/45) gearing, I couldn't be happier. I think it's finally set up the way I've been wanting it. The gearing gave it some longer legs but eliminated that extended clutch slippage in first gear of the stock gearing. It's really amazing what one tooth can make when used for the right application.
I need to order a black muffler today and get Mrs. 2LZ TT250 back together.
