I agree with Azhule and Jerry. I'm also confident that the cat is exacerbating the problem.

fyi , not exhaust leak , I tightened every thing on header where it goes into cylinder and head pipe to muffler section and still makes knocking sound. But agree the vid does sound a lot like a exhaust leak.
Noise seems to be coming down where cylinder meets engine cases, maybe cam shaft area? , Rj

currently taking off valve train , head , cylinder to see whats what. What a pain , thought I could do it all in the bike but the way they design things it doesn't have enough room or tilt in motor once you loosen mounting bolts to get head off. rj

What I meant was that if you have an exhaust leak at the head, it makes sense that the cat is creating the problem. If you cut the cat out, you'll see how ridiculously restrictive it is.

Got it Weld. I take it you physically cut the pipe in 2 on each side of the cat and add a piece of pipe to replace it?
Or do you cut it in 2 in the middle of the cat and give it a good roto-rooting to clear as much of the cat out as you can? rj

I would think cutting a window in the cat area would be better, that way you keep the pipes length and positioning correct. I found a small pneumatic 3 in. cut off tool at Harbor freight for $7.99 that's perfect for the task.

Great idea Cravin01, You da man. Thanks
So I took it apart after thinking about it last night. I was able to leave bottom end in frame by loosening the 2 front motor mount to frame bolts and pushing it away far enough to let the motor swing forward with clearance to spare to get head and cylinder off. But you guys already probably new how to do that. What I found is the lower conn rod bearing is very tight. I had felt like it kicked thru with more resistance then normally. The piston wrist pin pivots normally with no problem. The bottom conn rod bearing is like it doesn't have enough clearance or it was pressed together too tight??? Or Bubba original owner didn't put oil in it from the git go. Front of piston looks like it ran dry or got hot and started to melt a little. Spare part motor I guess for now since I have the new one on its way and I'm pressed for time to mess with this one, RJ

So this got me thinking. What other bikes have these jl163fml motors been put into that didn't originally have one ? I'm talking project bikes that had to do some reframing to get this motor in and work? Just curious if anyone has put these in some other bike that had a different motor in like a 2 stroke . I have a Honda MT125 that I'm redoing but havn't tried putting diff motors in a diff bikes. RJ

My thoughts exactly. You need to cut the window rather wide, because the cat is a bear to get out. Then, just weld the window back in.
