Impressions.

So, I wanted to give it a little bit of time to ride the bike with proper jetting to really get a good idea of how this cam changed things.

To start, yes it did make a big improvement. It did not increase the RPM range that my motor can take advantage of, nor did it shift the power curve much at all. It does pull a lot stronger, especially up top, but I am still limited to nearly the same rev range as before. It will pull to about 8200rpm now, and from 7500-8000 is a lot stronger. The mid range power is rather impressive as well.

On the road I find it much easier to reach a top speed of 75 than before and I am less affected by a headwind. Hills present less of a challenge to the bike than before, and I am able to leave it in a higher gear around corners and just tractor away.

They might call this a "race" cam, but on the CG250 I would call it a street cam. It could be run on a motor with no head porting and likely make a decent difference, but when combined with a head ported to maximize low lift airflow through the intake and an uncorked exhaust, it is one hell of a combination.

If this disappoints you, then I would suggest looking into one of the other cam profiles that has added lift. Those camshafts are designed specifically to create power higher in the RPM range, and one in particular will greatly shift the power curve. Just understand that these profiles will require other supporting mods like valve springs, machine work, etc. in order to properly function.

From everything you have posted i think you got your moneys worth from the cam. I don't know why so many are hung up on top speed. If you can run 70 mph and get there much quicker without the engine struggling you have made a big improvement. Although i have the CB vs your CG engine, Most of the results you have are very similar to the ones i'm experiencing. I may have gain more on the top end but that because of the available cam options for the CB engine. I'm not concern with top speeds. It's the overall performance that i have gained. Bike runs effortless no matter what speeds i'm driving, wind or going up the over pass or a steep bridge. It's a totally different bike now. Top speed might only be 5 mph faster but i don't need to run 80+ mph. Like i posted in my thread. On the same on ramp i gained about 10 mph in the same distance. That's a big improvement. I took the interstate this morning and got behind a slower car. I accelerated from 65 mph and hit 80 pretty quick and was able to get around them before my exit. After reading your results i think i will probably order a cam.

As usual you always have great detailed information posted.

I think a big thing for people to also keep in mind is this is the opinion of a performance improvement of a rather large guy. Not only am I physically big at 6'4 and have the build of an offensive lineman (which I was lol) but I also weigh 270lbs like a lineman too. There is no better analog to test acceleration and climbing performance than somebody like me lol. If I find it improved, somebody much lighter will definitely notice.

One big improvement is actually in part throttle riding. I don't have to wring the throttle out to get going at a decent pace. That may be partly due to the increased ignition timing, but also just the better airflow and power at the same throttle positions.

I think the engine is sufficiently strong enough to pull a taller rear sprocket now with me on board, so I am going to drop to a 31 tooth from my 33 and give it a try. I think that will take advantage of the stronger existing curve and give me the highway capability I am after. I may be wrong and the 33 is perfect, but I have to try.

I also had somebody ask about fuel economy because I have such a large main jet. Sure, at WOT it will use more fuel, but in regular every day riding, it has actually improved some lol. I used to average about 56-58mpg in town riding, now after 2 tanks so far, I am in the low 60mpg range.

I had considered inquiring about the cost of shipping if I ordered like 10 cams vs. 1. The shipping cost was nearly as much as the camshaft. If the shipping didn't increase too much when ordering a few of them, then it would definitely help keep the prices lower. I wouldn't have an issue being the purchaser in a group buy situation, although being the lead man in a scenario like that comes with a lot of risk and pressure.

I definitely think a company like Peace could really pull off selling the cams. They could deal with WGK directly to import them and maybe pass a little savings on to us. Even if they were still close to the $95 I paid, it would be worth it.

The main issue right now is, customs is not allowing shipping out of Brazil to the U.S. so for the immediate future, ordering a cam is on hold.

as small as those cams are the difference between 1 and 10 SHOULD be very little. But like you said getting them here is more of the issue currently.

Wow!

Wow wow wow!

Rode my Hawk to work on the interstate today. I hit 79mph! Held 70 at 3/4 throttle and never slowed down on the hills. Repeated runs to 75 were effortless.
It's 90 degrees today, and I think I found the 150 main jet sweet spot.

That tears it.. we've got to set a speed record with your Hawk. Gear it up to a 2 to 1 ratio and I'll buy cousin Jay a plane ticket. At 6 feet and 140lbs I figure he's our best option for weight and aerodynamics. And he'll make the run naked after shaving every part of his body, including his eyebrows just like Michael Phelps, and a dab of super glue behind each ear won't hurt either..

I trust you'll pick him up at the airport and supply him with his daily ration of ramen noodles and beef jerky, and it might be a good idea to have the new CSC seat on hand after the speed runs.

And hell, we can send him down to Jerry Hawk afterwards to set a couple more records, kinda like a publicity tour, and I'm sure he'll eat better at Jerry's.

Beef jerky and Ramen noodles is no problem for me to supply. I live on that stuff too.

Honestly, I think with a smaller lighter rider and the right gearing this bike could probably pull at least 85mph if you found the perfect jet for the air temps for that given day. With the 31 tooth rear sprocket, that is almost exactly what I would hit if I could peak at 8500rpm again like I did today. I don't think it would pull me along to that speed, but who knows. Maybe I can defy the laws of physics.

I did get my new jets in today too, and I think I am going to jump up to a 155 and give it a try. Heading home tonight I decided to detour and give it another run down the same stretch of highway (i literally left work and went back to work, because I am smart like that) with the air temps now in the 70's and she wasn't having it. You could just tell by the sound of the motor, and when rolling off full throttle it was going a bit lean again. So the 90 degree air temps must have just barely rolled it right into an ideal AFR range. Maybe it will be a tad too rich when hot out, but it will give me a bit more flexibility, and being a tiny bit rich on a hot day never bothered me.

That's some funny stuff right there. Jay could hit the 90's easily on Dans Hawk. Hell I've hit 80 once on mine and i have 40 lbs on Jay. lol
I see only one problem. Jay will loose his girly figure once i get done feeding him. lol I hope he likes seafood and gator. I'll fatten him up on some Jambalaya. AHHEHHHHH! We going to pass our self a good time.

Holy crap, OLR! That's a visual I'll never get out of my head! LOL!

Dan, regarding your Hawk, You've incremented your way up the mod ladder so I can see where you may not see a huge difference with each mod. It would be very interesting for you to ride a stock Hawk now.
