After reading those threads I am going to find a nasty old carb and give it a try.
I have used the chemtool carb dip. Works okay, but stinks. Also expensive.

I might try it on an expendable carb as well, although we have Mr. Clean in stock, not Pine Sol. I've only ever used aerosol carb cleaner, a tooth brush and compressed air with good results.
10 years ago, I tried a tip I found in a car magazine and used a powdered toilet bowl product, the name of which I can't recall. It worked really well on an old Quadrajet, but if you left it in too long, it would eat the aluminum. Anybody have a guess as to what the name was? I'll know it when I see it.

Here's a caveat for everyone; don't leave the carburetor parts soak in the Pine-Sol for too long! If you're going to experiment with Pine-Sol, read the entire threads I posted. I forget the details, but something bad can happen if you let the carb soak too long in Pine-Sol.

I think overnight was the recommendation. I may take a mower carb and let it sit for a long period to see what happens.

well here are the results of pin sol on my carb after an 8hr overnight soak if for got to take pics of what it looks like before but i do have some of what it looks like when it was on the bike

well once the jb weld cures i well try the carb out and see how it does but heres a pic i broke one of the float mounting tabs when trying to get out the stud so i drilling a small hole in the carb and the tab and put a small stud in it an then jb weld it back together
and here is its all fixed you can hardly tell it even broke |

Have you done a test to confirm JB Weld holds up in gasoline? Alcohol?

That's a good question, Doc. I have always assumed JB Weld could withstand any solvent after it cured. However, I never bothered to verify that assumption.

yea ive used it on gas tanks and carbs before as long as the surface is really clean and you make sure its fully cured it will hold up to gas an alcohol. so after carb soaking it still doesn't want to start very well so im gonna do a process of elimination by replacing the coil the cdi an hopefully that fixes it lol ill eventually get this bike going just gonna take some time...

Don't buy anything other than a Zongshen CDI unit designed for your 200GY-2, MM. You can buy the correct CDI unit from Zongshen America for about $30. While you're at it, get the plastic you need, and any other goodies you might need in the near future, such as an ignition coil, spare cables, et cetera.
