I got a shipping notice last night from powersportsmax. UPS should be here next Wednesday. My assumption is it may be the new left side plastic to replace the one damaged in shipping.

Just out of curiosity. Have you backed out any bolts that were already installed yet? Were they close to being torqued correctly? Locktite? Thanks.

Yes I backed out all the bolts. None of them had loc-tite on them. I’ve still got to do the linkage bolts on the triangle for the rear suspension. I did both outside socket cap screws on each fork guard. The inside facing one is blocked access by the front wheel so for any future reader, do those before you install and loctite down the front wheel axle and pinch bolts.

Also I didn’t add engine torque to the pdf. But the Enfine Oil drain bolt is only 13 foot pounds of torque max, and the Engine Oil Screen bolt is 10 foot pounds.

Oh and as I go through various bolts, nuts and socket cap bolts I’m writing down the sizes I use of tools. When I’m done I’ll have a list to make an emergency road toolkit up in case I ever do an extended trip I can always do the maintain or repair tasks that might occur.

If you want to know the extra tools I had to buy for this build so far.

1. 32mm socket, 6 point. Harbor Freight
2. 24mm socket, 6 point. Lowes
3. 1/2” Quinn Digital Torque Adapter. Harbor Freight
4. Impact Socket Adapter Set, 3 Piece. Harbor Freight. I got this a long time ago it was pretty much a 1/2” adapter set of I recall, black.
5. High Visibility Socket Adapter Set, 4 Piece. The shiny chrome vanadium ones.
6. 1/2” breaker bar. Harbor Freight
7. Motorcycle combination axle hex tool. Amazon

That rounded out my socket set and my wrench set and let me adapt a lot of my existing sockets to the Quinn 1/2” Torque Adapter and 1/2” breaker bar.

My socket set maxes out on metric around 19mm and 7/8 on SAE so I needed to get a couple new sockets. Digital torque adapter is a must. I’m done with the mechanic torque wrenches as these digital ones certify more tolerant and don’t drift as fast as mechanical ones. The 1/2” will allow set alarms between 25 foot pounds a 250 foot pounds. It will cycle display through about six different standards but the most useful ones for me at foot pounds, inch pounds and newton meters. For anything below 25 foot pounds I just use the display and stop torquing when my target value has been reached.

Tire change tools

Got the tools to do the tire changes and to open up the tire to do a rim lock removal.


Also got two rubber rim lock hole plugs to plug the hole with when they are removed.


Didn't get Tire Changing Lube yet, will need some eventually.

Coming to final stretch of personal pdi and final assembly

I spent today doing the remaining bolt torquing, especially everything needing a sparing drop of red thread locker.


I got just about everything touched now. The only things I have not touch are few bolts inaccessible to the digital torque adapter AND when putting on wrenches were "bloody tight" from the factory.


I also did not touch the engine mount bolts. They have red ink witness marks on them so I will just watch them as part of my pre-ride routine.


Everything is now just about done:
  • Final Adjustments to Mirrors for maximum horizontal extension.
  • Final Adjustments to Clutch lever, positioning and slack. I now have the friction zone dialed in exactly half in/half out of the clutch lever pull exactly where I want it.
  • Final Adjustments to the Front Brake Hand Lever
  • Final Adjustments to the Rear Brake Foot Lever
  • Final Adjustements to the Idle Speed
  • Final Adjustements to the Air Pilot Screw used by the Idle/Low Speed Jet.
Still to be done:
  • Install replacement side plastic to address shipping damage.
  • Install reaplacement side plastic sticker to address shipping damage.
  • Tidy rear lights wiring under the rear wheel guard.
  • Adjust (or not, new China chain will stretch a lot in the beginning) the Chain Tension.
  • Ride the bike and do suspension adjustements (waiting on insurance).
  • Get State Inspection (waiting on insurance).
  • Get bike registered and plated (waiting on insurance).
  • Peel the stickers covers and ride!
Future to be done:
  • Remove Tires
  • Remove Rim Locks
  • Install Rim Lock Caps
  • Reinstall Tires
  • Balance Front & Rear Tires
  • Install New Sprocket
  • Install New Chain
Future orders (waiting on start of AliExpress Black Friday sale):
  • Inductive Hour Meter
  • Cable Lubrication Tool

Putting her to bed for now. Will continue through the ever dwindling todo list another day.

Here I have the charger and battery tender on which is a end of day routine. After running the engine I notice that the charger displays the battery voltage and its overchared/high charged. The tender will typically bring down the 14+ volts down to 13.6 for float / tender in Winter mode and keep it there. This should get me double the life out of the batteries.


I have not looked up getting a replacement battery yet. Keeping the battery hooked up to the charger it has always had excellent condition and cold cranking ability.

Sounds good TP! It’s looking good! I got my new custom graphics in today. Hoping to get them on in the next few days. Kinda nervous about that. But I’ve been watching a bunch of YouTube videos on it. So we will see!

Home stretch

I am really in the home stretch now.


Tail Wiring has been cleaned up. I tried a few routing ideas and finally settled on some Gorilla Tape. Its expensive but the best and already in black. This seals the large hole from water penetration that is in the rear fender that leads to the battery and CDI electricals under the seat.

I did a sticker peel. Its rained all day and is overcast and dark, I'll wait for the sun to reappear tomorrow to get a peeled look.


Today I removed the tail luggage rack, tidied the wiring on the tail lights, reinstalled the luggage rack this time with blue locktite thread locker. Then I went around to the side plastics and gave those some blue locktite threadlocker.


Did a full test of the brake lights, running lights and turning signal lights. Put the seat back on this time with blue locktite thread locker and then put the battery back on charger/winter tender mode.


I peeled the warning stickers off the bike, they all came of easy. Except for one! The handlebar guard plastic had a warning sticker. It was old, these must have been manufacturered and sitting in a bin for a while at the factory. It left a lot of goo residue on the plastic.


I didn't have any remover, and I wasn't about to use acetone on plastic although it would do a lovely job on the goo. Time to break out the plastic safe high tech goo remover .

End of day. I let the sticker residue soak for hours while I went about my day. Peanut butter is 100% plastic safe and 100% will remove sticker goo.


Now the only issue is the thread they used to sew on the velcro, if it is cotton or whatever it is, it broke when undoing the velcro being stuck to iteself. I need to glue on the broken off velcro bits and then this cover is done.


Nice and clean, goo free.... but now I feel like a snack!
