I think we may have had this same discussion when you first showed up at CR.

driving stick is entirely different in my book...LOL and for the record, when i joined here i was riding an old steel Schwinn worlds frame with stem friction shifters....LOL shortly after i switched that out for the steel mtb (old roadmaster) frame, and even shorter after that, scrapped the steel frame idea and used my strek 3700 frame to buildup a gravel/road bike on 700c... which i still to this day want to get a disc for and swap out the garbage cheapo rim brakes that i bought for the build and put my Avid BB5s back on.... even with the blue swiss stop pads i cant get a decent brake feel out of the calipers i have... i know i can get great feel out of the BB5s... someday.... got bigger fish to fry right now....LOL

I wouldn't put this light on my bike, but they do exist.

Took the first fairly longish ride on the Trek morning. Rode into town and got some breakfast then hit the trails in Elburn Forest Preserve. Here's a pic of the 90's flat bars to make bogie cringe.

That's my bud Weez and me in front of the DeSoto. Weez and Mrs. Weez stopped by Cheesy Manor for a nice visit today. Ya know when you meet someone for the first time and it clicks, that's us. Our connection is bicycles. Mostly fixed gear but almost any bike will pique our interest. When I got clobbered on my bike, Ernie was the first one there to ask if I needed anything. He even gave me a nice Raleigh Super Course frame to help me rebuild what got destroyed. Today, we swapped bikes. He gave me a 1954 Raleigh built Huffy 3 speed and I gave him the 99 Trek 730 Multi Track. Mrs. Weez was eyeing that Trek so I think he's going to be fixing it up for her. Today was the first time that Mrs. C and Mrs. Weez met and they hit it off, too. The way they were laughing and carrying on at lunch you'd think alcohol was involved, but it wasn't. I think their connections are crafts and their somewhat dim witted mates.

I've decided to hang up Saturday morning fishing to do Saturday and Sunday morning bicycle rides. Daily if I am working from home. I had help in the decision with an ACI test of 8.1, which is mondo not good.
I actually tried to ride yesterday but the ass hatchet Ideale 80 on the Trek MTB came loose and made for a miserable ride. I changed out the saddle for a sprung Velo Orange saddle, similar to the Brooks B67 on my Raleigh. Went out this morning and had the same thing happen. At least the VO saddle wasn't an ass hatchet. Said ta hell with it and limped into town where I knew I'd find another rider that would have a 6mm Allen wrench at the coffee shop. (Haven't gotten around to making up a tool kit for the Trek yet. Rectifying that tomorrow.) I pulled the seat post clamp apart when I got back home and said, "Ahh!". Aluminum post with a steel clamp. It had been ridden with a loose clamp several times in the past and the serrations in the aluminum post were worn out. The serrations in steel clamp were full of aluminum. Broke out my Dremel and fixed that. Chased the threads on the bolt and in the nut. Reassembled with 242 Loctite and a real Alllen wrench. I couldn't make it come loose.

I went out to take a ride with my wife yesterday and my crank arm loosened up. Unfortunately, my multitool did not have a 14mm socket.
The parts of my my bike that date back to 1961 give no problems. Its the modern parts that seem to require frequent adjustment and re-tightening.

Today was a lot better, everything stayed together this time. I've been trying to scope out a route for my buddies and I to ride that ends up at breakfast. Finally got it. 12 to 15 miles with a mix of pavement, gravel, off road, and single track. it beat me up.

One, it’s a good thing it’s in Sacramento.
Two, the man cave has more windows than wall space.

Managed two days in a row on the Trek and will shoot for a third tomorrow. Seat post clamp packed it in yesterday. The fix was $28 for a new Sunlite post. The wind was a bit of a pisser today but made it without too much drama. The local coffee place is good spot for a bit of a recharge and I get to exchange barbs with the 'go fast' guys.
This is what passes for a hill at the new place. This is looking north along Francis Rd through the Illannoy Canyons of Corn.

Didn't feel good yesterday so went fishing instead. Fishing was so wonderful that I should have gone for the bike ride instead.
After lunch I went out to the garage and started putting the Weezcicle together. Got this far until next weekend. The left crankarm was slightly tweaked so I straightened that with the blue pry bar and a bfh. The front fender is off the Ohio built Huffy and will need the stays shortened a bit.
