Picking up a 1987 Schwinn Sprint tomorrow. Former coworker offered it up to me gratis. The frame looks a tad big for me so I may just do an overhaul and flip it.

Not sure if I posted this before but this is my folding motorized bicycle. Didn't plan on a motor but I'm too old to peddle far. The motor is a 4 stroke Honda GX35 clone with 1.2 hp. Friction drive with a .9" roller.

If the 1987 sprint has a chromoly frame, it was assembled in Mississippi. Little bit of trivia.

That's a cool friction setup. My China girl engine was mounted in the frame, so I had to tinker with the drive chain a lot. I had a lot of fun with it. I rode it over 10 years.

I need to get a new frame for my weight weenie. Walmart used to have a carbon fiber framed bike for a reasonable price, but I never picked it up. I want get get a carbon frame really bad, but they're expensive. lol.

I think carbon is worth the money if you are doing long rides. My rides rarely last over an hour, these days.

I think it may be an 85. It has low end Suntour Hero components and meh wheels. Assembled in Taiwan.

Back story on the bike is that it belonged to her late uncle. She and her dad have been estranged since she was in her early teens and her uncle filled that void for the rest of his life. They were quite close and she didn't want the bike going to just anybody.

So, it looks like I'm not flipping this one but it is definitely getting better components and wheels.

Brought home four more bikes yesterday. Stripping one for parts, flipping two, and keeping one for moi.

1965 Huffy Sportsman. A poor attempt of crossing a Raleigh Sports with an American gas pipe frame. Rusty and groady. Good SA hub, fenders, tires and chain guard. Stripping.

1990 Trek Multitrack Hybrid. Actually kind of nice. Needs tires and a spoke in the front wheel. Flipping.

2007 Trek 3500 MTB. I know this one as I bought it new for commuting to work and didn't like it. Gave it to my mom. Needs a new saddle. Flipping

1999 Trek 830 AL MTB-Top O' The Line for the year. Early 8 speed set up. Dad bought it at a police auction for $25 and mom had a cow about it until she found out what they went for. Needed air in the tires and I swapped out whatever POS saddle Dad had on it for a nice Ideale leather one. Keeping.

Here's the Trek 830 AL.

Took it out for a 6 mile, or so, ride on the local gravel route early this morning before we go Miami with the temps and humidity. Not bad for a 22 year old bike. I'm going to live with it for awhile before changing anything. First thing, though, would be the bottom feeder RST 281 fork. Think I would get the same performance with a rigid fork and Girvin Flex stem(I have an NOS one in 1 1/8")and have less dive.

The Vee brakes are the catsass(see comment about dive)and, although an admitted and card carrying Retrogrouch, I like the Sram Gripshift system. A lot more than the Sram trigger system on my fat bike.

Ha. Twisters I know, triggers I despise. Along with brifters. Not sold on the bars, either, but they are staying for now.

Man, How would you handle stuff from the 60s?

You'd be wrong on the top bar brakes. Much, much better than the 'turkey legs' of the 60s. CX drops on a roadie, no problem. I draw the line at brifters.

Down tube or bar end friction shifters for this kid. They are simple and fool proof. There's also something to be said about being able to shift both derailleurs on the down tube with one hand when need be.
