Yes they do. I visited the shop in Walnut Grove a few years ago and met Mr. Rivendell himself, Grant Petersen. Cool dude bordering on weirdo. Some of their house brand hipster stuff is actually pretty nice.

I took a spin on the beach to look for a distant glimpse of TS Cristobal. Nothing yet.
- I could smell beer, sun screen and burgers on the grill as I pedaled.
- As usual, I was the only bicycle there. Everybody else was riding golf carts, quads or those expensive Polaris buggies. Still beats riding the emergency line on the highway.20180722_100156_005.jpg

Love the beach riding! My sis and I plan beach riding when the wind is blowing steadily either north or south, with a low tide, in Bandon Oregon. And then head down the beach with the wind about 5-8 miles. It’s super fun. We don’t have fat tires like you but we find the sweet spot in the sand where resistance is low, and just go for it.

You can definitely ride the beach with 2 inch tires under most conditions. The 4 inch tires help in the transition areas between the road and beach, where the sand is powdery soft.
- my biggest problem is keeping my cables in working order. The salt air makes them rust and freeze. No amount of lube seems to help and my fat bikes are kept in the garage. When I apply the brakes, I have to dismount to release the disc brakes with my foot.
- I now understand why a lot of vintage bikes had rod actuated brakes.

-A lot of people around here have a nice 5 foot wooden Tiki. A local guy makes them here on the peninsula. This Moai is almost 20' tall.

Made an update to the road-tb this week.... no clue why i didnt do this back when i built it...LOL my wrists hurt FAAAAARRRRRR less with these bars vs regular drop bars.... put a set of WTB Mountain Road drop bars on the mtb-converted to roadie status...LOL sorta liking the gravel bike vibes it gives off now..... put just ahy of 20 mi on tonight with no wrist fatigue and spent a good 1/3 of the time in the drops, which is significantly more time than i usually do...LOL

Fabio Jakobsen suffered a really nasty crash at the finish of the first stage of the Tour of Poland. Danger always lurks at finish line of those crazy sprint stages.
-Lets hope Fabio recovers soon.

oooh nice..... i found out last night that AVid leaves a LOT on the table in terms of 160mm rotors....upgraded to semi metallic pads on the mtb from organics, and swapped the rear 160mm rotor as well... amazing how much more braking area there is on this Tektro rotor... and yes, the pads use all but a mm of it....

Out for a ride on the 3 speed fixed gear 1973 Raleigh Super Course this morning. Still a sweet ride, but I am way out of shape. And I still ain’t sure about that Brooks Cambium. I’m leaning more and more towards Ass Hatchet.

Last Thursday, August 6th, was the thirteenth anniversary of my altercation with the front bumper of a Mitsubishi Lancer.

My sister tried to one up me in the Spectacular Crash department and I think she may have succeeded. She was going downhill and the next thing she knew she was laying on the road with her left leg at an unnatural angle. She doesn’t remember going down but whatever happened caused a broken tibia and a crushed knee cap. She’s having surgery on the 26th.

She’s a year younger than I am. I told her she was too damn old for doing stunts.

Sister came through her surgery okay. The damage was worse than expected and she ended with a plate and five screws. Off work for three months. That’s what hurts for her as she has a harder time than I do sitting still.
