mph on a flat highway
Quote:
On a flat highway, with no wind, no tuck (sitting up straight), how many miles per hour is a stock KPX250 good to go? ... and rough rpm, if you remember ... Thanks - for the guidance. |

I'm a 215lb guy, my KPX is on stock tires and stock gearing. 55mph is 6k on the tach sitting upright.

Top speed on them is about 75mph ala GPS. Even with a 1 tooth bigger front sprocket, 75mph. That's their real limit in terms of power vs. aerodynamics.
On stock sprockets 75mph is right around 8400-8500rpm With a 14 tooth front sprocket 75 happens at about 7700-7800rpm But, since you asked Jerry, I'll let him answer.

Thanks SO much, guys. I didn't mean to limit answers to Jerry; I just knew that he had one (a KPX250).
At 72 (and about 230 pounds in the 'space suit' ), I'm no speed demon. I was just trying to determine if long highway riding (maybe at only 60 - 65 mph) would be a too high rpm ordeal ... and if the practical speed limits e.g. due to straight-line stability or susceptibility to wind (yes, we get some wind, here in Wyoming) might make highway speeds unrealistic. Not having highway experience ... and hearing so much talk to the effect that one can't ride highways on less than a 1/4+ ton liter+ bike (many of which lope along highways at less than 5,000 rpm), I'm left wondering ... ? Your thoughts, experience and guidance are so very much appreciated ... |

If all you are wanting to do is ride 60-65, it will do just fine at those speeds. The biggest issue with small bikes, especially dual sports in particular, is they are light and tall, so they get pushed around by the wind easily. I ride my Hawk at 60-65 on highways here in the Great Plains (Nebraska) - land of the wind - all the time. You just get used to it as you do it. You also might be surprised that even bigger bikes can be tossed around in the wind as well. My VFR is a very aerodynamic bike, and also weighs close to 600lbs without me on it. One good stiff side wind and I can find myself changing lanes unintentionally.

Knowing that even cars & trucks can be (are) tossed by wind, I was wondering if highway speeds bike riding was even safely viable. I decided to 'learn' on a little 47" wheelbase MSX125/Grom ... and the other day I experienced some 40+ mph gusts that left me dropping down to maybe 25 - 30 mph - to feel comfortably stable. Out here in wide open spaces ("where the deer and the antelope play"), I guess it will just be prudent to slow WAY down when it's gusty (which can be OFTEN/daily). On YouTube travel vlogs, I've noticed that, when sight-seeing, most aren't going much more than 40 mph on pavement and 15-25 mph off-pavement - even on heavy bikes. Happy Spring ... out on the plains. |

I have a link to the service manual somewhere in this thread. It should have the information.

Im trying to find some information to finish up my warranty card sent by Lifan, and I am having trouble figuring out where exactly the model number and serial numbers location is.. This may be a dumb question but I figured I would ask a few others with a bit more information, that have already done this themselves

Remove the four bolts holding the rear rack on. Then remove the two front bolts that the front bolts screws into.
