I think I am building up some carbon on the plug. Just a tad rich. But it likes choke to start, so it isn't the pilot. I think it is the 1mm shim or modest main jet increase causing this. I need to eliminate the cat, so maybe will leave it slightly rich for now. Runs great throughout throttle/rpm range. Here is a pic from this morning's activities. I set the feeler gauge in place, snugged up the adjustment, pulled the gauge out, and found that it is ONLY ~1/8th turn to 0.002" OK fine. I think that you can set these things by 1/8th turn instead of dealing with the deepset gap in these heads with limited access ports! I set intake 0.002" and exhaust 0.0025". The Intake valve is harder to access, but I found my previous settings held stable. Nice motor |

I sent a parts request for the rear foot pegs. PSM said they will send me an invoice to pay on Monday and will ship the pegs. I’ll let you know the cost tomorrow.

The youall carb came factory jetted 117 main 40 pilot. I’m 1317 ft above sea level so I dropped the pilot down to 38 and the bike is running pretty good.

The templar X and templar M are back in stock on the Powersportsmax website. I ordered the X this morning in Orange.
AjjAxx84, I should have refreshed my screen. I didnt see that you had posted. I also see that they are coming with a counterbalanced engine. Did the X not have that before? |

Just noticed. Same price I paid. Nice.
You will love the bike. I just did valves to spec and it is so smooth and responsive? Awesome Enduro, streetable. I thought the ZS172FMM-5 version was a 6speed. Isn't it the one going into the new LifanKPX 250? I may have to buy one of these and sell mine!! |

Not sure if I would trust a sticker as confirmation of a 6th gear.
But it appears the refresh (PR250) does appear to be a 6speed with counterbalance...there are also reports that they make less power than the vanilla ZS172FMM. parasitic loss from the balance shaft perhaps...based on dyno results. Also it appears Zongshen made a ZS172FMM-6 with a 4 valve head. But licennsing looks to have locked it behind a obscure company Bosuer(BSE) bikes. Not sure how accurate any of this information is as I am just relaying info from the thumper talk forums |

I could buy one and sell mine. Might. I might also just buy a ZS172FMM-5 engine, do a head porting job on it, maybe find a 270cc bore kit for it, and swap it into my Templar X. My X is paid for, insured and registered for initial 2 years, and it's great as it is. A 6 speed "300cc project motor" based on the -5 would bolt right in. I think the 6 speed version will show up on ebay sometime soon. I might call the Carrollton, TX sellers that have the -3A and see if they can order -5 engines. I can wait. I sent Xpro an email and asked about the -5 Last edited by Thumper; 08-12-2022 at 10:35 AM. |
