I have a cheap schwinn hybrid i use for short rides on the paved trail we have around here but it was useless when camping. The tires, brakes and gearing on this thing make riding dirt trails and what not a breeze. Would have never paid the $400 they normally wanted for it but for what i got it for it seems like a good deal.
im real good at pissing off the carbon weight weenie guys, i am a 280# 6'2" Clydesdale of a rider, and can out sprint most cat 2 riders...on my Trek mountain bike that i converted to a road bike...with a cheap chinese carbon fork, and cheap chinese aluminium wheels... back when i was riding regularly, i could sprint at 48mph on flat land on that pig....

One ‘snappy comeback’ to a bike snob is “Let’s see how well it’s held up five years from now.” I’ve had one of my bikes 50 years next June.
Its a bobtrax x5. Gander decided to get out of bikes so they blew them out. MSRP was 599, they had it for 230 with the good sams membership and i asked if they would take another 50 off because it was a bit dinged up. To my surprise they said sure lol. He just likes to give me crap because im cheap.

He's not little guy, about 5'10" 245, told him if he would lay off the steak he could lose enough weight to just buy aluminum bikes again LOL. For an old fat guy he does pretty good, i can't keep up with him at all, told him ill take the chonda and out run him.

Not a thing wrong with the bobtrax. Pretty good components on it. Like I said, you stole it. My sister and her significant other have a pair of Wolftrax.

Something about that front fork tells me it doesn’t steer very well.

Spent an unusually warm afternoon riding on the sand.

I got a chance to ride with my essentially mountain bike semi-pro brother in law and wife’s sister out at a nice set of trails called Whiskey Run, near Bandon Oregon. Here are the specs if anyone is interested.

It was a super good day.

My single rear rim brake wasn't getting the job done so I bought a Sachs drum for the front from FleaBay.

Took this one out of storage and brought it to the new place.

1981 Miyata 710. Bought it new. Did my first century on it. Also my first double, triple, quad, and 24hr TT. It’s set up now as my night time 24hr bike.
Last time it was ridden was October 2012. I braked on a wood surface bridge covered in wet leaves. I went down. Hard. Old guys shouldn’t do splits nor should the right heel touch the back of ones head. Gave my riding buds a good laugh until they realized I wasn’t getting up. One of the guys is an ER nurse and he went into shop mode. He and the others got me up and I managed to limp to our breakfast spot on adrenaline and scarfed down a good meal but needed a ride up the hill to my house. Hyper extended my knee and tore my meniscus. Again. Bike needs an overhaul, but once done, the basement will be a good place to set up my rollers.
Artsy Fartsy shot for ya.

I still got it. Sort of.

30 years ago I could ride these things no handed while feeding myself, peel off my sweaty shirt at 30 mph, sprint to 70mph then hold it for 30 seconds. I have even done a couple 100 mile rides on them. Today...15 minutes was all I could stand, just reaching for the shifter was unnerving, and my shoulders hurt more than my legs.
