New speedo for Arpok.
![]() Upgraded version of the one I had. The previous unit had two backlight options, neither which worked. This one has seven and, yippie, all seven work. I also figured out that I could enter the cumulative mileage from each of the previous speedometers, which sounds like a pretty good idea at the moment. This just the mileage from the previous unit.

Right you are! It's the engine that makes it stoppable...;-)

Clamped the new action cam to the sidecar grab bar for a ride through the new neighborhood. Note the toilet sitting in the driveway of the largest, most expensive house where we live.
![]() It's entitled 'Monkeys' Eye View'. It's the first video I've I've uploaded to Utube in four years. Enjoy. It's pretty nice to be able to see the speedo now, too.

So, it's three miles to the local bakery from Cheesy Manor. Yet it's thirty miles on the Ural.

Tried out the new to me fairing today. 7F and breezy with the threat of more snow. Like we need more.
![]() Keeping.

20F and 65 miles today. Bright sun. Definitely keeping the fairing. Only thing cold are my piggies. What surprised, and pleased me, was the fairing keeping the wind from finding it's way into the handlebar mitts. That allowed me to lower the temps on the heated grips. No more scorched palms and frost bit knuckles.
Supposed to be near forty on Tuesday. ![]()

Rinsed the winter off Arpok this weekend. It was kind of groady.
![]() I decided I needed to cook my birthday steak on the fire pit yesterday but had no firewood. Mrs. C says the BP on the other side of town sells it. So, head out on Arpok to get some. I'm expecting an armload of wood, but no, it's a big ol' gunny sack full of split oak that weighs around 90lbs. I wrestle Sak O Wood into the sidecar and head home. After the adventure of getting that Sak O Wood into the sidecar, I knew damn well I wasn't carrying that thing to the fire pit. I rode through the yard and stopped next to the fire pit to unload. ![]() Steak was perfect.

Very close to a milestone with Arpok. Will probably see 31,000 miles on the clock in the next week or so. 31K sounds like an arbitrary number but convert it to kilometres and it becomes 50,000 kilometres.

Since i am considering what my options are moving forward when it comes to riding and the damage done by being a Diabetic i am starting to look towards either putting a sidecar on the Harley or doing a trike conversion on it and picking up a Urial. Truthfully i am leaning more towards option B as having the Urial would allow me to keep riding while the harley is disassembled for the conversion. That all said what sort of things should i be looking out for and any particular versions i should look at? I seen a Patrol on Kijiji a couple days ago for 7k which seems like a reasonable price for one. Also how usable are they in late fall/early spring weather when there is still a bit of slush on the ground especially with them being 2wd?

Look for a well maintained and ridden 07 or newer. 07 is when Ural started using Herzog made gears throughout the engine and trans. Avoid something with super low mileage. Those can be a headache because break in problems are probably still there. Ural engines are mechanically noisy. Gear driven pushrod valve train and alternator will do that. 06 and newer run a Denso 50A alternator, so added electrical farkles aren't a problem. 2014 is when they went to Electro-Jet fuel injection and disk brakes all around. 14 to 18 should have the latest off road mapping for best operation. There is no differential, so 2wd is on an as needed basis. It can get you unstuck or more stuck. I probably used it 5 times last winter. i ride mine year round. They can get bit squirrely on a snow covered road if you aren't mindful of conditions, but no worse than any other vehicle. Bear in mind that riding a sidecar rig is nothing like riding a motorcycle. Can't countersteer like you do on a moto. A lot of upper body english is required. Think snowmobile instead of motorcycle. Urals don't do expressway speeds well. Mine rarely sees 65 mph. Mostly 50 to 60. If you want a slab runner, the Harley is the better choice. ![]()
