CG might live again

I decided to install the roller cam followers again on a stock cam.

With the DIY copper head gasket dressed and lightly coated in high temp ceramic paint the refurbished head went back on...(go back a page to see how the gasket was made)

I used the standard donor push rods and added the other 3 copper washers from the donor valve assembly as the necessary spacers to compensate for the thinner head gasket and rollers...No interference found

Engine turned over fine, valves went up and down, spark plug in and healthy compression...

So out with stuck clutch loncin 166fml and back goes the donkey ZS167

CG250 Revs another day

It's Alive....alive. I had to go back to the shorter pushrods on the roller cam followers as the washer spacer trick on standard push rods raised the valve train assembly too high, So was not able to clear it trying to remove the rocker cover...

So you see the valve adjustment is basically fully out but still working with enough lock nut engagement.

Muff Tweaks

Did some tweaking to my muffler...

it was to close to the case vent to the point it was rubbing and burning the hose.

but as soon as you make a bend radius alteration it pretty much throws everything out of whack...

Cushhub take 2 and Gold Chain

The urethane CG125 cush hub bushing experiment has concluded.

Result = Fail.

Replaced with conventional rubber type.

ebay xring chain installed along with 16t front and the 44t rear.

With enough tension slack for a 17t front and a little chain stretch leeway.

Getting the master link installed took some added assistance by vice grips.

Took the bike for a backyard test and all seems good...

If the weather improves I'll be taking a trip to the bakery for a blueberry danish as a reward.

Mission bluberry danish

Completed the bakery run and acquired a delicious snack.

The bike ran low to mid range great...

But there is a loss in top end rev range which I deduce as the cam roller on stock cam experiment...

I wasn't sure last time I tried as the 300cc cylinder kit experiment also failed so I had conflicting variables...

Needless to say even though you appear to get more valve lift and duration the possible overrun and reciprocating mass is of performance detriment to the stock flat tappets.

Conclusion: stick to stock

Also think the cylinder is on the tired side (no surprise) definite oily smell and blow by...but no blue smoke.

Still all things considered my copper head gasket seems to have worked and the engine is running again which is testament unto itself..

BOAO CG300 Big Bore Kit

The donor cylinder is clearly worn out with the amount of blow by.

So in the predicament again of needing a new cylinder kit...

with the old adage "Go Big or Go home"

A stock kit here in Australia isn't that far off from paying the little extra and getting the big boy...

But which CG300 kit to choose?

From Aliexpress I've found 3 fairly consistent suppliers of CG parts.

DYNOP, Kun Wing and now BOAO. I will not post links this time as I don't want to be held accountable for other buyers possible outcomes.

For me the BOAO kit was significantly cheaper for both the product and shipping.

I contacted the seller and was given enough feedback and product fitment confirmation to make the order (73mm OD skirt and 16mm wrist pin with vernier caliper photos) alixpress seller ID: BM168 Store

The kit arrived today and I can tell already from my other ALixpress parts orders this kit and company takes some pride in their product. Shipping time reasonably quick.

paper gaskets of higher than average quality...Metallurgy fit and finish seems excellent. Much better than my DIY fit big bore kit escapades in comparison.

Stock cam followers installed...

My Vans alternator needs replacing, so this big bore kit arrived when it needed too...

Itchy Saturday.

Big bore kit installed.

Also wrapped the header pipe. Itchy Saturday fun times

Did milk run ride to the shops and back...

Might need some rejetting...but I've gone through 4 different cylinder combination experiments to the point I can't really tell how much of an improvement there is other than band new vs old reassurances...

A running bike is better than a non running van...

Also i'm starting to think the new xring bike chain might be robbing power as it breaks in...

So hitting 65mph could be hampered by this.

Something to keep in mind with oring bike chains...

Lean

Went for a second short ride and heat soak.

Back home and checked the new NGK plug hot...definitely lean on the main jet.

My fresh black header wrap double confirmation of a hot lean burn as it turned the wrap white...

Maybe the BOAO cylinder and piston has higher tolerances and all my other cylinder piston combinations were oil burners...

Will bump up the main jet....and probably gain more top end oomph.

Just went from 130 to a 140 main jet. I don't have any bigger main jets and only a 135 in between, So opting for skip into rich rather than play creep over on lean.

Looking great man! Haven’t been on here in a while. I’m still running my kit too! All running excellent but started to get an oil leak finally. Not sure if it’s from the shift shaft seal or count shaft sprocket seal…I’ll have to dive in more. It leaks even when sitting 😕 I’ve been doing a bunch of EV conversions instead which is now tempting me to do that to my 200cc scrambler build!

Nice weather, took the bike out for a 140main jet poke. About 20mins here and there

Gave it the beans on my nearest speed zone and was getting stumbles fully pinned. above 55mph/90kmh

Got home and shut the engine off hot pug inspection...

Still looks lean.

ordered a 140+ Keihin main jet kit...

Looks like the big bore does indeed have a bigger appetite.

The egg test

still waiting on jets but needed a trip to the local shop...

so took it easy on the throttle avoiding WOT.

grabbed the supplies and commenced the dozen egg test...

back roads with some hips and bumps...

Experienced some clutch fade....but I will ignore that for now...

got home...No Omelette.
