Grin

Remember kids, videos flatten the hills like crazy. Plus this Sony has a stabilization lens that makes things look waaaay smoother than they are.

First big test ride since...

So the video above shows the first real test ride after all of the modifications this winter.

The Zeta lowering shim ( http://www.zeta-racing.com/sus/lower...owering_r.html ) drops the seat height at full extension by about 1.2 inches (30mm). Doesn't seem like a big number, but because I have a 32" inseam I wanted to try it out.

The lower height really helped in those awkward spots where you lose balance and reach your foot out only to find air and suddenly head for terra firma. It was also nice on steep descents and side hills because the suspension unload doesn't throw all the weight up as high; keeps the bike feeling grounded and less like a bucking horse. On the open whoops at high speed I couldn't tell much difference, but I don't ride all out speed as I'm too old to crash anymore; I need more time on this setup to really say much more.

The Rekluse LHRB (left hand rear brake); really mixed feelings on this one. My hunch is that I don't have it adjusted and or bled quite right. I'm totally NOT used to it. I actually kept grabbing it to upshift like it was a clutch lever.
The biggest concern is that it's very hard to get a good feel for what is going on with the rear tire. One time it just slows the bike, the next squeeze I'm sliding out as I enter a corner too fast; the next I can't get it to lock the tire at all.
On the plus side it did help hold the bike on hill climbs that didn't end as well as they could. You can see that in the video above (I fast forwarded it a bit so you didn't have to suffer through me getting the bike back onto firmer ground) It was very steep. Chad looped his XRR on it, which is something I've NEVER seen him do.

Dashboard mods; well, this one just about bit me hard. Towards the end of the day we were banging up some ledges and I totally cased the bike. It lost all voltage to the Trail Tech and no fuel pump sound with key on.

Turns out the fuse was blown. I had 4 spares in my tool roll. Tore the bike down looking for the smoking wire to no avail. Blew 3 of the fuses testing things. After unplugging the headlight and USB port the last fuse held!! No issues getting out and back to the truck. I'll try and figure out what happened soon.

All in all; a beautiful day in the desert. 75 °F and blue skies. Now we are just jonesin' as we wait for the high mountain trails to open up after the snow melts!!

Just read this whole thread with interest... I'm confused - Which one did you test drive? I thought the GPX was your LXR250 under a new name? Or did you try the 450?

The 450s have not arrived yet. I think August / September timeframe.

The GPX bikes are made by a different manufacturer. They have impressively "upped" the ante on quality control and hardware over the <quite good> LXR.

I was able to demo ride both the 2-Stroke TSE250R and the air cooled FSE250E.TThey both rock for different reasons. The 40hp of the TSE was a hoot and it would be a great play bike for shorter day rides.

In the end I decided to get the NC250 powered FSE250R that uses the same motor as my trusty LXR in the sweet new chassis.

The new chassis is a step up in every way. Handling is unbelievable. The seat is easier to throw a leg over. Ergonomics fit me very well.

Thought that would give you a good laugh. As my father always told me, it never hurts to try.

In all honesty I'd love to see it go to someone like you that will carry on with finding cool ways to make little improvements and sharing them with us all!
