Short answer, yes. Vertical dropouts.

Long answer, no. Not if I can find the 'Magic Ratio' between rear cog, front chain ring, chain stay, and master links.

Short answer is better.

You might be able to use an eccentric bottom bracket from a tandem to adjust the chain. That would allow you to use the coaster brake too.

Coaster brake? Bwahahaha. Only if it was fitted originally.

Down to one bike with a coaster and that’s from 1947. The 2 speed Shimano is/was designed for BMX in the early nineties, no brake. Kinda sorta based on the 3.3.3 three speed hub. I don’t recall if the hub is low/direct or direct/high, but with a triple crank up front it doesn’t matter. I could muddy the waters even more by fitting dual cogs on the hub with a triple up front and have a 12 speed with the worst of both worlds.

No advantage to an eccentric BB if you are running a rim brake. The Tensioner is a very cheap and easy compliment to that 2 speed. I used them on my old SS mountain bikes (when my knees had more cartilage in them).

Been ages since I’ve seen an eccentric bb. Were they ever built for a standard shell?

Most of them I see are used on mountain bikes with dropouts that do not allow you adjust the chain, so they can use the coaster brake. They make them for 1 piece cranks too. They look pretty heavy. May not be the best choice for that superlight C'dale, Queso.

A Slovenian inventor plans to market a heated bicycle seat. The fan can be reversed to provide cooling in the summer (that's what I need). More at the link.

Hmmm. Dunno about that. First thought when I read the article was, “Why are you riding bare assed on a cold saddle?” Never gave it much thought because I rode with the right gear for the weather. The summer cure for Swamp Crotch May have promise, though.

As some of you know, mountain biking is one of my passions. Getting to the trail head can sometimes get expensive when you drive a monster truck that gets 10mpg. So to combat gas prices and because I just like to build stuff, I came up with this little setup. 60 mpg shuttle rig to get my bike to the trail. I tested it out on the dirt roads around here and it works good.

Nice.

Friend bny has what he calls his ‘cricket bat’ to carry his fixed gear on his V-strom. I think everyone has seen my set up on the Ural.

Signed up for the Lake Pepin 3 Speed Tour again. This makes the tenth, and maybe the final one. Love the ride, hate the logistics of getting there.

Anyway, I've been kicking around the idea of replacing the steel rims on my 51 year old Raleigh Superbe 3 speed with Sun CR18 EA3 aluminum rims for quite sometime. The rims are available in the 32/40 drillings needed for the older Brit bikes and have the same ERD, so no need to swap spokes. Price has always been the drawback, though. Thirty to forty bucks a pop seemed a bit much for a bike I paid $15 for.

I sprung today. For three reasons. One, I'm not the strong rider I was anymore. I hate to admit it, but tis true. The Bay City Hill almost beat me last year. It's not going to this year. Two, the frickin' Raleigh is a heavy beast when lifting it onto the bike rack. Raleigh didn't advertise it as the 'All Steel Bicycle' for nothing. Three, one of the perks of working in a bike shop I've found is that I can get stuff at cost. Geez, $19 each.

So, Jeff is ordering the rims Monday, I'll pick them up Saturday. The Raleigh goes on a diet.

I would think that bicycle up high like that would be effecting your handling in a bad way ,have you thought about a rack like a typical surf board rack with the bike beside you ?

It would surprise you how well the Hawk handles with the bike like it is, especially on gravel roads, which is my normal ride to the trail head. I did actually think about mounting it to the side, but I had all the parts on hand to build it this way, which was basically free. Looks bulky and top-heavy, but it’s not bad at all

Riding vintage bikes can be hazardous. I was riding across a ditch a few days back on the flightliner and went over the bars. The springer fork had compressed so far that the tire jammed against the fork crown, locking the front wheel. Fortunately, I had a soft place to land and nobody saw it (ha ha).
-I need to find a way limit the front wheel travel so that the front wheel won't lock like that again. I am probably 50 pounds heavier than that rat trap fork was designed to handle.
