Update- After a few hill climbs where i did not have a good running start I decide i needed to change my gearing. The 17/45 combo was great with the stock tires but with the larger tires not so great.
I had my original stock 56 tooth rear sprocket and a new Tsubaki chain (thanks to Spud) the stock 134 link length i had ordered a while back. I put those on since i already had them, as it turns out i can still get up to 55 with the 17/56 combo at about 8500 rpm. So for now, taking into consideration that i do not spend much time on the road, I'm just going to stick with the 17/56. I think something in between the 45 and 56 would be ideal on the rear or maybe just dropping the front to a 16 or 15 with the 45 rear as Knothead had suggested.

You may be OK with your terrain, seems to be more wide open than around here. Have you mounted your tires yet? |

Just joshing 8) .
Have not mounted the new tires yet. Too busy with work, the yard, the girlfriend, etc. Plus, I seem to be OK on the stock tires a little longer. When it heats up here and gets softer/sandier/dustier I will not have a choice. Another couple of weeks at the most.

Maybe the ticket will be a 16 or 15 in the front and a 45 in the back. That would allow quick changes with no chain swap, or maybe even adjustment...

I run a 14 in the front and carry the stock 17 in case I need to run on the highway. Rear is the stock 45. Only takes a couple minutes to swap and no extra piece of chain is necessary.
