I recieved a useful gift (first one in years) last Sunday.
blimpman stopped by and gave me these.

I was supposed to purchase them from him but hadn't had the cash
to spend. He said he was cleaning the garage and in the giving mood.
Wow I am truely greatful! I took them out to the garage to compare
them to the stock Yuanxing tires that are on my GY. After getting them
side by side I noticed that the new Cheng Shin's have pretty much the
same tread pattern as the stockers but a little more agressive spacing.
I'm sure they will work well. If the weather gets real nasty I may buy a
box of screws to stud the stock tires. Time will Tell.

Thanks again blimpman! I owe you one...

2005 Kinroad GY200-1

Bought my new 2005 Kinroad GY200-1 still in the crate just before 2006 ended for $995 locally. The bike looks like it has many of the features from the 1993 Honda XLR-200R with NX125 type electric starter system. It took a while to assemble them since the assembly CD they provided was useless and even more for the operator's manual in which the English translation was so bad that it was worse than the Japanese motorcycle manuals of the 1950s. Fortunately I had a manual from 1979 Honda XL185 which helped a lot.
The bike started after a third crank of the electric starter and the gearbox operated smoothly. What caught me off guard was the shifting pattern which was opposite of the 1969-1975 Kawasaki H1 500. I thought all motorcycles built after 1975 was supposed be one down, four or five up. Is this common in all the GY200s? Ironically the Honda XL200 had a beautiful 6 speed gearbox which I really miss. I wonder if it's possible to fit that gearbox system.

Hi MURANO
The US Federal Law that went into affect in 1976 said that all shifters will be standardized and put on the left side of the motorcycle and the brake on the right side. There has never been a standardized shifting pattern for any motorcycle. Most motorcycle companies just followed the 1 down 3-5 up pattern. The Honda Z50, XR50 & CT70 used all up or all down and Honda changed them during the years a couple of times. The Yamaha PW80 & BW80 used an all up pattern. There where a couple other bikes that used the all up or down pattern after 1976 but I can't remember which ones. I hope that this helps.

no, many GY's are 1 down 4 up, but a 6 speed would be a welcome change!!

Thanks for the info to both. I wish mine was "standard". After owning over 50 motorcycles, 40 I still own, this is the first with a different shifting pattern and old habits die hard and this caused many near accidents. Which GY200s have 1 down 4 up pattern? Lifan?

After 1975, there also was a law in US to print shifting pattern on the engine cases. My 1975 Honda CB550 and CB750 have them.

My '06 Lifan GY20-5 is 1 down 4 up. Had a 1965 Honda s-90 that was all down and then down once more to neutral. The PO said he brought it back with him from Japan and that's how most of them were over there.

My 2006 GY-5 is N at the top and 2-3-4-5 down.
GP shift pattern. You get used to it.

Well I spent a few hours out in my freezer (garage) last night messing
with the GY. I replaced a footpeg mount that was bent. Thanks Bruce for
the replacement. It was definately bent. A few minutes with the vise and
a hammer should make it a good backup part. I replaced the large
footpegs on my daughters 125 with a small pair given to me by Bruce.
They will work great. I also mocked up a new gas tank. I'm not sure if
it will work or not. I was gonna post the pics and ask for opinions.
Unfortunately I cannot get the pics off the memory card. This is the
second one I have had do this to me. The last time I had to send it
back to the company to get them off. Quite the bummer. If I get some
more taken I will post them. That's about it for now.

Your more than welcome. Glad to have helped out unintentionally.
I was just thinking the other day that I should have taken some
video of the gravel pit when we were there. Maybe next trip if I
remember. I think they are definately worth the money.
