Regarding the clutch adjustment, my cable needed it for the first time this morning, and I noticed what people were talking about - the plates seem to grab very early, and it gets worse as the engine warms. I struggled to get neutral at all until I pulled over and adjusted the cable, and it does indeed seem to prefer the tighter end of the tolerance.
