Yep, where do you think all those littered cans on the side of the trail come from?

Death Wish part 5

I must have a death wish. I'm about to order number 5. My first Chinese ATV is over 5 years old. In that time i've only changed the oil, one set of rear brake pads and two batteries. No one dies so bought my Hawk and a Chinese UTV two yeas later. All I've had to replace on those two were oil, rear brake on UTV and front brake on Hawk. No one died. Now i have a Venom X22R 250 for about 6 months. Besides putting performance mods on the bike and changed the oil, yep you got it, no one died. So on to my next death wish coming some time toward the end of the month if i don't die.
If you don't feel comfortable with buying a China bike then it would be best to look at other brands and pay the price. I have less that $7000 tied up in all four i have and happy with them. i know they are not perfect and didn't expect them to be. I can tell you this. The quality from the first ATV to the latest bike i have has really improved. Dealers like Venom have been working with the factory to produce higher quality bikes. They want to know what the issues are so they can correct them in the next batch they get.

But back to the Hawk. I saw you had a post about not being able to register in Alabama. You have the DXL which is EPA approved for highway in 49 states so shouldn't be an issue registering it there. Try a different DMV. Apparently the person you talked to didn't know what they were doing. Better yet go to one of the local notary tag shops. Those people will take the time to help you as they want to make money. We have a few members that have gotten there non street legal Hawks registered in Alabama.

Imagine all the happy Hawk riders and owners are wrong ,because he found one disgruntled owners video which must be the only one telling the truth .You can’t make this up !

Yeah, I just read and realized he hasn't even purchased the bike. I'm so glad i found this forum because that's what made me make my decision on buying a Hawk. I figured we can't have that many liers on the forum.

The funny thing about the video is the guy wasn't even completely against the bike, not to mention he did own one. He was giving a kind of humorous, tongue-in-cheek round about review of what to do if you get one. But he had some questionable racist bits and pieces thrown in as well which was more controversial to me than his review.

Jerry, where did you get the 4* timing key from? I'm pulling the TBR7 apart to replace the cam and figured it would be a good time to do that mod as well.

I got it from Joe Henner on the Orion/Xmoto RXB Riders Facebook Group. You can message Joe Henner directly.

Yeah I contacted him on FB messenger as well, friendly guy. He said give me an address, put $18 on my PayPal and I'll ship it out today. I did have some difficulty finding his PayPal account until I typed in Joseph Henner.

I had the flywheel key 3 days later and it is money well spent, crisp throttle response and accelerates faster through the gears. Best bang for your buck you can get.

Just finished a 50 mile ride with my 2020 Deathtrap Hawk 250.

Spoiler alert, I did not die.

Also, the 120 main jet seems to work good with the pod air filter and new exhaust, slight part throttle surge, but otherwise, much better.

I kinda got a kick out of the video posted. the guy in the VID is obviously reasonably skilled and took his time checking everything out. it also appears he got a poor and poorly treated version of the bike. I did not have nearly the fitment problems of this guy, but it does come with the territory when you purchase a motorcycle for 1300 bucks. I had a fitment problem with the support bar of the tank covers. I bent it into place. I had a fitment problem with one of the rear covers. I left it alone. didn't bother me nor the performance of the bike one bit. I didn't have any wiring problems either. his was a crappy version, but unfortunately, you get what you get when you only pay 1300 and you have to do the QC work yourself.

I personally had some problems registering my hawk in NC. I went the South Dakota route. However, others got theirs registered. Location near major cities where the license bureau is more strict may have been a factor.

overall, I was impressed that the guy had the skills to correct the problems and get it on the road. cudos to him. I'd still do it again. at this price point, how can you not?
