Oh, yeah, do the Mercedes conversion. A guy down here swapped out the engine and drive train in his 1930 Model A pickup for the same from a Mercedes 190D. The stink gave it away.
I4 was an OM601 and I5 was an OM602. The best diesel Merc made in my opinion was the OM617 I5. Those are getting hard to find in my area. Easy to build lots of torque with.
