Does the 170cc kit require boring of the case halves ?

This is exactly the info I'm after though. Thanks
Might be a stupid question. But in first post I asked if this was long or short case ?
My guess is long. Guess I need to know for what belt I need

Thanks again

Dave

Here is a link to the red springs. http://www.ebay.com/itm/SCOOTER-GY6-...a5ebfc&vxp=mtr

There is also yellow. 1500 rpm.

Slider weights. These are 10g.

I'll have to read through that thread later tonight. Thanks for this link aswell. I'm sure it'll be very helpful to me. As I'll be tearing into this soon I hope.

I have 10g sliders in a new variator. My variator was broken. I also have the yellow springs.

This buggy has plenty of grunt for us, but our yard is flat. We can put two adults in and drag one. Don't now about top speed. Maybe 30mph.

I would suggest going the same way. It should climb hills well with one person.

FYI. I found the variator with the sliders for about $30. Having an impact wrench is almost a necessity for this job.

Sliders, springs, new belt. Look for a bando or gates belt too.

I am not sure on the boring. This one says no. I don't know the final displacement. I have bought from the vendor before too.

I think you have a short case. If you take the cover off the belt will likely have the size on it.

It may be a long case.

There is a picture part way down this thread.

I picked up another one of these today

Has plastics off of a different modle on it. From what I can tell its a 150cc aswel
It has larger maxis tires on it so the wife will like that. Probably swap them onto the black one for this year. And this winter probably make this one the ridder. Seems heaver duty overal

Basacly identical in appearance to the last one. But front suspension looks better
Rear shock mounts look heavier

Same reverse mecinizim as last too. So in the end I'll either have 2 riders. Or tones of parts for one

It currently does not run. Someone went to town on the wiring and it's just a mess
And doesn't have a carb on it. But it did come with a carb. Doesn't look original though.

That's all for now

Dave

Looks like all the markings were ground off

Here's some comparison shots of the differences I've noticed

Front A arm on old one

New one

Front hub on old one

New one

Rear suspension mount old one

New

Skid plate old one

New one

The exhaust is defanatly not stock
Old one

New one. Any idea what it is ?

Looking for feedback. But to me the new one is heavier duty and front suspension looks better IMO and to me looks like it won't have bump steer like the other.

But after looking at old one might know why it has bump steer.

At this point I'm thinking I'm going to use whatever parts nessicary off of old one to get this one going.

The new quad isn't far off from being a rider. You could certainly get both of them in good running order.

That carb could work, but it's not likely to be original. Mine is identical to your black quad, and i think our friend's quad is the same as your multicoloured quad. BTW, Krylon Fusion is an excellent paint for plastic, in case you want to convert it from the pinto look.

Both mufflers look stock to me.

For what I've got into it. I think I'd rather just make 1 really good quad from the 2
And this way I can build up a motor how I want while it is still usable

The only reason it though exhaust could be "custom" is just cause the size of the tubbing off the header.

Old

New

Not sure if this is how this version came. But seems more "flowy" to me lol

I see your point. How are the bends in the midpipe, before the muffler?

No idea what it's from, but I agree that it's not likely stock.

Did a little work to the quad today.

Swapped the tires onto the black one
Save the frame swap for this winter
I also think I may have fixed the bump steer issue. Will have report next time we ride (probably Saturday)

Here she is with the new tires

The steering links on the front when I got it were almost perfectly level horizontal.
Kinda seen here

The way the rod end is mounted makes it this way.
I swapped the rod end on the steering shaft from bottom of the mount to the top

And now the link is on almost the same angle of the A arms wich I think is how it's supposed to be

I've ridden it around the yard but nowhere really to test for bump steer so that will need to wait

Rear tire after the swap was rubbing the muffler but that was an easy fix just bent the muffler closer to centre using brute force

That's all for now. I will let you know if the steering issue has been fixed after next ride

Thanks

Dave

Excellent idea! Bumpsteer is normally due to a dissimilar length tie rod vs. control arm, but that assumes the angles are similar to begin with.

You can test your mod without riding; just place the front of the quad on a jackstand and remove the shock. Turn the wheel so it points straight ahead, and cycle the wheel up and down by hand. If the wheel doesn't try to turn within the range of the shock, you've won!

If you're successful, I'm gonna do the same mod to mine.

I'll see if I can try that tomarrow.
If not this weekend for sure even if I don't go riding. I'll try what you suggested
