So I got the bike back together, haven't touched the valves or the carb. It runs great with the new exhaust. I am really impressed what a difference that mikuni and exhaust made to the bike, it makes cracks and burbles now.
So I got my sprockets 16/44T with a 130 link chain. I have to take 5 links off correct? +1 front, -6 rear to make 5. Thanks guys. The bike is really turning out nice. Will post pics of it finished next week when I have everything on it. |

Going to do the valve adjustment this weekend and tune the carb. She's sputtering at 3/4-WOT or at the top of the rev range, seems like a lack of fuel. I think it needs a bigger main jet and the jet needle needs to be shimmed up. Let me know your thoughts. I'm at 3,600 FT above sea level. It is a mikuni 30mm. Thanks guys.

Do you have the stock jets in the mikuni? Not sure at 3600FT but I would assume it is running lean.

It's running stock jets. It runs well at 0-1/2 throttle. But past that, it's running lean for sure.

That carburetor comes with a 100 or 105 main jet. You may want a 115 main, and a 20 or 25 pilot. If the main is way too lean, the needle can't compensate for it. That is why it doesn't run well to 3/4 throttle. Raising the needle will help some until you can get a new main jet. But it is not a permanent fix.

I picked up a 115 and it was running way too rich. I'm going to try a 105 or a 110. I also shimmed up the needle and it may have been to much. I'll keep tinkering with it.

Yeah I shimmed the jet needle up with a washer. The 115 seemed to be to much. It was choking on fuel. I'm out of town but I'm going to keep trying to play with it when I get back. Also what's the marking for dead top center for the motor, I need to do the valve adjustment.
