Clutch issue ramblings'
I promised way back in this thread to talk more about my clutch "failure" on our Day 1 TOI attempt.(successful attempt)
Recently the problem has hit a few other LXR250s, so I wanted to present my theory... it's just a theory and we may find that I am totally wrong on this. I accept that there are many, many smarter folks than I about the inner workings of motosickles. Hopefully they will chime in. I made this little video in hopes that it will help someone "see" what I'm talking about; it was thrown together quickly and I should have used a tripod, but here goes: Here are a few pictures of the clutch parts in play: Last edited by ChondaChondaChonda; 04-04-2018 at 09:35 AM. Reason: add successful "attempt" |

I think you are on the right path with the clutch issue. If that rod is just a hair too long, it will take up any slack when it expands thermally and could be putting constant pressure on that thrust bearing, and thus the clutch. It's no different than valve lash on a solid lifter valvetrain system.
I almost wonder if there is a spec for the gap between the two rods that can be looked up or provided by Pitster Pro. It wouldn't have to be much, maybe 2 thousandths or so.

I've not heard of this being an issue with the RX3. Did I miss something or is this just on the PP's? Odd, same basic motor.

If it happens, they should know that it's pretty easy to lay the bike on it's side and pop the clutch cover off; 5 x8mm screws. Then pull the 6 x8mm screws and springs to remove the pressure plate; removing the shim will temporarily get you going again. These clutches are quite large and robust for the power output of the motor. I know when this happened to mine I had been flogging the bike hard and it was a long steep climb. It sounds like a similar situation with the recent event. My hunch is it only affects a tiny percent of the NC250s out there. |

It would be hard to measure the clearance anywhere in this setup. I just don't see anywhere that a guy could get a feeler gauge in, except the clutch plates... maybe a spec when the clutch is fully pulled in?? |

Otom protective parts added
I wanted to see what these plastic case protectors were all about. They are quite a tough plastic and should add some good protection, but I can't see them staying clean for very long. Also a brake res shield.
The flywheel side cover wasn't going to fit until I modified the top hole. There must be different versions of the NC250 that don't have the crankcase vent hose there. |

Wet wiegh in...
So, after getting the new graphics on and all the rest of the bike bolted together it was time to see how many lbs it was at. 276.0 lbs. Full of oil, coolant, and with a bit of gas in it (maybe 1 gal?). Ready to ride weight.
Took the bike for a spin. First time since I put the lowering spacer in. Feels like it needs more pre-load. Definitely need to get my sag set correctly. |

Where did you find those plastic covers? Do you have a link for the rad cap? Love the scale!
