1. The narrower rim makes it much easier to change the rear tire, especially at trailside. 2. The narrower rim gives me a larger selection of tires from which to choose for proper fitment. The Suzuki DR650 and Kawasaki KLR650 both employ the 2.50-17 rim on their rear wheels. 3. The 2.50-17 alloy rim is much lighter than the 3.00-17 steel rim. I laced the 1.60-21 rim to the front wheel for better off road handling, lighter weight, and a much greater selection of knobby tires from which to choose. Narrower front tires work much better in mud and sand than wider front tires. The narrower front tire bites deeper into the loose/soft earth while seeking, and finding better traction. The wider front tires tend more to float over the loose/soft earth, and are much more likely to wash out. The wider tires are also much heavier, adding to the unsprung weigh of the wheels.

I know someone who got wheels built by Woody's for the RX3 and he's loving them.

I believe Dan from Ohio got the custom wheels built by Woody's. If you have time, please feel free to post a link to the appropriate thread, Joe.

http://www.warp9racing.com/product/mx-enduro-rims/ The Warp9 and Tusk Impact rims for the front wheel are readily available from Rocky Mountain ATV/MC. If you wish, send me a personal message, and I will help you to find the rims you desire at a reasonable price.

Here it is Spud. It was spread out inside the RX3 thread on ADV Rider. Here is the search I used to find each mention:

What I think makes this an extra valid article is that Rob has not only been riding for years and is a HUGE adventure off-road guy but he's also an instructor at RawHyde Adventures.....The BMW off-road training facility in California. He just doesn't bring the RX3 to work :-)

I'm a little surprised that for starting at 6 grand, the suspension was marginal. We got marginal suspension for far less.
I wonder who makes the motor?

BMW G310GS Wonderful??
I don’t think so. To answer 2LZ, the engine is made in India, as is the whole bike, using machinery made by BMW in Germany, and then shipped to India for assembly and production.
I waited over two years to see, touch and ride the G310 in California. When I finally did ride the bike I was really unimpressed with the ergonomics and the performance. The rider’s cockpit is very crowded and cramped, especially if you’re very big and tall. The engine vibrations and roughness is too much. The performance, lacking. After my test riding, I stopped at another dealership and purchased a Honda CB500X. Much better of everything than the G310. Your results may vary! Good luck. 1CW |

I haven't ridden the 310GS, but have 4 friends that have purchased one. They like it. A much better choice for me was the Honda CB500F that I am in the process of changing into a 500X. jb

Or, for that matter, is there any fuel tuner available from any of the manufacturers?

Hi guys!
Since 2018 haven´t my RX3 anymore: sold it only to move on towards a Benelli TRK 502 (500cc, twin cylinder, EFI, amazing Givi case set), so now came back here just to say thanks again to SpudRider and all the other amazing guys who shared their experiences and good advices with us on this thread! Also wanna to share a Youtube video (Spanish audio, sorry) on wich I discuss all the pros and cons discovered on my RX3 (2016 carbureted version) after 2 years and 14,000mi of riding through the argentinean Patagonia roads: Best regards, Juan Carlos Martins.
