One explanation could be your main jetting was off on the PZ30B but that is speculation, but a possible cause. I can say on the Magician Performance Improvement Project I got no significant difference between the PE30 and PZ30 at WOT as I do not consider 1 mph significant.

I do agree with you though, the pz30b wins the useability side of things hands down. That is why I swapped back to one now that my bike will be my commuting mule.

So, Having ridden my bike a few times again, I am reminded of just how incredibly loud it is. I mean, don't get me wrong... it sounds awesome. The cam REALLY opened up it's volume (as did the timing avdvance, porting, and 10.8:1 static compresson), and the stainless wool in my repack gave it a more baritone note to boot. I am actually less self conscious on my VFR, which has a muffler about 8 inches long...
So I am going to go for a 2 stage approach. Last year I tried to go a cheaper route with using a slightly smaller diameter spark arrestor insert to tone it down, and it did have some level of success, but also sounded a bit... odd. This time around I am going to give a T4 quiet insert a try, via 1 3/8" diameter. (linkL https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) I know it kind of seems silly to do all of this work to open up the breathing to then slap a bottleneck in the system, but if it doesn't have a negative impact on the performance and manages to at least take the edge off the bark of it, I am ok with it. Funny enough, I think my bike got louder with the PZ30B. Probably just my imagination, but that's how it feels lol. I hope it has enough of a desired effect on the volume levels, because otherwise I am going to then resort to a more expensive stage 2. Stage 2 you ask? What could that be? A 570mm long (just shy of 2ft) muffler for a 51mm pipe with a DB killer on it. Like this one, or similar. Seeing as Stage 2 costs 5 times what stage 1 is going to cost, I obviously wanted to try for stage 1 first. I figure if all else fails maybe somebody else will take it off my hands for a reduced price and give it a try on their bike. On the plus side, if I go through with Stage 2 I can do a little angle correction when welding the adapter in place and get the muffler up higher on the frame similar to the original muffler. If that isn't enough, then I can go full desperation mode and add another baffle to the inlet. Understand that I am not aiming for whisper quiet. I would, however, like to be able to ride home at night, usually around or after midnight mind you, without feeling like the worlds biggest jerk. In other news, I am working on a semi secret headlight upgrade. I won't know what I have to work with until the first thing I ordered arrives and I know how complete it is. I got a really good deal on it, but I may need to fix or replace a few things. All I will say is Bi LED projector, and then let you wonder about the rest. Maybe I am the worlds biggest jerk after all.

I would consider attaching a DB killer to that pro circuit adaptor much like the stock HAWK exhaust. You could experiment with the length and # of holes a longer version of it with more holes, a closed end or no, which might allow some sound or performance tunability.

To revisit the world of carb jetting. Moved the needle down to the 2nd notch and it cured all my little hiccups and other such issues at the 1/4 and 3/4 throttle position. Unmasked my 135 main jet being a hair on the lean side when the temps dip into the 50's. Pulled nice and strong when in the 70-80 degree range so I am thinking a compromise jet is going to be called for. I am going to see if I have a 138 in my little jet kit. If not, back up to a 140 it ism at least until it gets regularly in the 90's and above and 70 or warmer at night.

To revisit the "STFU" mods on the bike, I got the 1 3/8 Quiet insert in today so I decided to toss it on. I dropped down to a 130 main, which without said insert is lean enough to make it fall flat at WOT. With said insert it spews black smoke. So at a minimum that means I would be dropping to a 125 main. On the plus side, it does do a decent job quieting things down. I just don't like the loss of top end I felt.
That leads me to option 2, because I think my issue is that the 38mm exhaust diameter, to some degree, is my biggest restriction now. Having a muffler that opens up to 51mm and into a larger muffler chamber will hopefully reduce some of that.

Revisit to my revisit. Discovered that my new pumper carb was acting up and the float/needle were not sealing well or hanging up and causing my extra rich condition. Also had to adjust my accel pump as after I made some corrections I discovered it went from a weak spit to a fire hose pushing half the bowl into the engine lol. I will have to play with it, but for now I have it on the weaker side of things.
I currently have a 130 main, which I know is on the leaner side of things as it falls on its face past 3/4 throttle a bit. I swapped it out and will ride home tonight and see if the fueling improves at all or stays lean. Air temps will only be 10 degrees colder so it shouldn't factor in at all. For those that are curious, the original piece is 1 5/8 inches diameter. I went with a 1 3/8 but there is also a 1 1/2 and 1 1/8 as well.

So, it did get a bit colder than predicted by our phenomenally accurate weather people and it ended up being closer to a 30 degree drop (I was really cold on the way home) so I am going to hold off on judging any potential fueling changes until I can ride it in near similar air temps.
As far as noise reduction goes. From what I can tell this particular quiet insert took my high compression, advanced timing, cammed - obnoxiously loud exhaust back down to standard ebay muffler on a standard hawk levels of volume. I find it liveable. If the fueling is not too greatly affected - say the 130 main jet works out well with it, I can live with that. Maybe I am sacrificing half a HP on the extreme top end, who knows, but the bike is still immensely strong on the low and mid range. Even with the 17/45 equivalent gearing it just feels like a stump puller. Side note. thanks to some help I put an order in on an aircooled CG300 cylinder and piston kit from Aliexpress, so the previously attempted and abandoned "big bore" CG is back on. Not likely to be a project I will attempt this year, but I want to get the parts together.

Got the first part of my Super secret high tech strange headlight upgrade.
Ok, so not that secret. A bit different though. Morimoto Super 7 from The Retrofit Source. It's a "Blem" housing that has some paint/coating flaking off on the back side metal housing, which to me doesn't matter as it will be inside a metal headlight housing anyway. It's designed to hold one of their M-LED projectors and was originally designed for Jeep upgrades, but it should also work with a bike housing, and if not, the outer ring is polymer, so I can sand, cut, grind to make it work if necessary. No, it's not entirely a budget project, although the Super7 housing pictured above was only 35 bucks shipped. The projector and driver are quite pricey at 180 bucks, but as far as light output goes, for the money it is going to be hard to beat. Plus, I can also swap it over to a future bike if I desire, or even switch back from the round headlight look and retrofit the original Hawk headlight, so it has some options for me. I just needed a new project to have something to tinker around with, plus I have been back and forth on doing a round headlight or projector retrofit anyway and this is kind of a "best of both worlds" approach. I also kind of want to do something a bit different. I used to do projector retrofits years ago, and I kind of miss it in some ways. It might look a little cyborgy as well, but I think it will make for an interesting look when added to the Hawk, and it might just work out well. At the very least, it will make a good conversation piece lol. This is going to be a somewhat slow to build project as I am waiting for my headlight mount bracket and buckets to arrive on the slow boat. They won't be here for at least a month. This is the bracket set I ordered. A bit more expensive than the usual fare on ebay, but also a bit more sturdy than those as well, which is usually just cheap stamped metal. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000...47874c4dEbHY82 The bucket I went with. Not anything special, but for those interested. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000...47874c4dEbHY82

This is a decent video that kind of goes over the assemblies. At the 10 minute mark on they actually compare the output of this vs a standard Halogen, and two top of the line 7" LED headlights, one of which I have owned before on my GL1000, the Trucklite 27270C, which was a phenomenal light.
