A couple of years ago I studied your work on the PZ30B, put one on my HAWK and confirmed it "is a performance improvement", especially so with low gearing it provides as you call it "punch." Sometimes I think about putting another carburetor on my HAWK, then I go about my other business!
For me it is trying to find that balance. I am not as concerned with top speed capability as I am with trying to work with the bikes strengths while still having a bike that can competently hold 60-65 for extended periods while not quite being pegged at redline the whole time. The great thing about front sprockets is, you can swap to a different one to get a decent change in gearing without really having to mess with chain lengths

Great info! I just bought a 2017 Hawk 250, and then picked up a Tao tbr7 for the wife! Thanks for all the info!

Finally got around to getting it finished up and back on the road.

So, where do my misadventures begin?

The PZ30B definitely put up a fight. I ended up having to swap parts over from my old one to this new one in order to get the pumper to function properly. The check ball jets were too long and actually causing an issue with fuel flow to the nozzle. Once I swapped those over, the nozzle itself was actually too short ... So I swapped all of that over, and finally got it working.

Jetting was straight forward, used the 38 pilot from the PE30, idle mixture is currently 1 3/4 out, though it might need to be leaned out a tad once it gets to summer. Idle is rock solid, something I always fought a little with the PE30. Main jet size is currently a 135 with that K&N style Nibbi filter on there, but by the time I got to test riding the temps started falling pretty quick and pretty far, so I decided to call it quits for now. It is either a hair too lean or a hair too rich, but it was hard to determine at that point. I will toss a 140 in it next chance I get, or wait for the temps to be in the mid 70's and see if it behaves worse or better.

The Nibbi coil is definitely kicking harder than the old one. When I first started tuning I had the jetting way too rich all around, and instead of dying, it just blew smoke like a diesel, so it's sparking hard.

Bike still pulls just as hard even with the "smaller" carb. It may have lost a teeny tiny bit of throttle response, but not that much with the accelerator pump making up the difference. Still quite the whiplash maker in the lower gears, and it's amazing how quickly this bike will hit the rev limiter in first gear even with the way it is geared. Fast enough that if I try to nail it in first gear from a slow roll I can almost not react fast enough.

Did all the usual spoke checking, chain cleaning, and pivot greasing. Swapped back to the 33 rear for now. Here soon I may swap out to a 12 front just to see how I like it.

It was nice to get out and ride it again, finally.

I am really liking the tail bag so far too. Hopefully it lasts a couple of seasons at least.

Got a little riding in myself today on the HAWK after I put a 2 gauge ground wire on it. I had to take the carburetor off to get to it and then mess around with the pumper adjustment some as it seemed to be off. I put lock tite on the carburetor bolts when I lost a nut while back, so they wouldn't loosen and the studs backed out instead. As soon as you pick up a wrench the gremlins go to work! Monday supposed to get some sun, so I'm heading for the hills to ride. I bought that tail bag too! needed something for tools but somehow its not a tool bag.

Sounds like we had similar days lol. I put a lock nut on my carb nuts for the same reason you used some loctite. I Just went with the lock nuts for simplicity more than anything, plus they have enough extra thread to do it.

A 2ga. ground? I thought my 6ga was overkill!

I think that bag will do ok for tool duty. It's definitely a light duty item due to the plastic buckles and hoops, but as long as too much isn't asked of it I think it will hold up fine. I just need something to hold my lunch, a drink or two, and maybe my rain liners on those iffy days. When it is expanded it can hold all of those things. I do eventually want to get some side bags and make up some hoops for them, but no hurry. I have my hands full enough as it is!

Similar, but taking apart the PZ30B accelerator pump injector system and dealing with some studs not quite the same technical level. Ha, Ha. Those studs were quite a testament to Loctite 243. This is what happens when you buy the big bottle, everything gets loctite! Put it on the stud side stupid! Live and learn with these bikes and mechanics. Yaa the tail bag will work, it has a nice shape and I like expandable. I was using a small duffle I bunged to the sides. Like you I question durability but the overall design is excellent. The cable I got at O Reilly's,(correction I looked at the package) is 4 ga and a 12 inch car cable, just barely fits lengthwise but nothing in the way. I have one of those NIBBI coils I bought as a spare I may have to try it.

Day 1 of the tail bag being properly used. Didn't even need to expand it to hold my usual haul of goods to work. Straps stayed snug and nothing shifted.

I will say this. I love the design of it. It was nice being able to ride without having to wear a backpack, which will be even better once it gets hot outside.

I unbuckled and carried it in by the handle. A 5 second affair. I really do hope it holds up for a while as I really love it.

I admire that CSC rear rack on your bike. It looks like a rear air spoiler when nothing is attached! Ha Ha. At $95 dollars though just not budget worthy. I bought a 1/8 sheet of aluminum 12" X 12" for think $21 off Amazon. I'm going to try and make one some time. It appears it uses like 1 inch plastic spacer to move it up some. You would need some longer bolts and you find any stability issues with that?

I bought the rack when it was on sale for 50 bucks with free shipping back when I had my last Hawk.

It's mounted with some short aluminum spacers and longer bolts, but it is very stable.

Your idea to make your own isn't a bad one, honestly.

I would have to do some digging, but I think a member here at one time had a bolt pattern layout/schematic for making their own rear rack. It might come in handy for making your own.

Use your time for other things. I don't know when I'm going to get around to it. I think I will make a template outa some thin cardboard, cut the corners on an angle and put in the slight curve around the seat. What is the diameter and length of the spacers? The biggest issue is will the dremel cut that 1/8 plate well to put in the tie downs. Then lastly of course the "HB" logo in the center!

I never measured the spacers, but I would say 8mm tall, give or take and about 10mm wide.

So whats the top speed difference befween a pe30 and pz30? Nothing. Hit 74 with ease on my way to work today. Air temps are mid 70s and the 135 pulled strong today. I need to adjust my needle a bit though, I sit right at the needle to main transition when cruising at 65 and I get a random hiccup like it is getting just a tiny bit too much fuel. At the 4th notch it was pretty rich, so I have it in the third. I will see if going up another notch helps. Makes some sense since my PE also ran in the 2nd notch.

That’s strange, on my Brozz when I went to the pz30b pumper carb my top speed was 74mph. Put in the Pe30 nibbi and top speed went to 78mph. I missed the ride ability of the pumper so I put it back in and the top speed went back down to 74mph
