I like the USB charger that was integrated in the dash as well. Nice touch.

The gear shift indicator is from Ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/LED-6-Speed...72.m2749.l2649

Love, love love when a seller puts the dimensions and good wiring diagrams in their ads!! I wish more would catch onto this!

To catch up as it been a busy few weeks in the shop.

Cutting and grinding on the frame...oh my!

Because I had messed up my original steel subframe (when I tried to get a rivnut out by pounding it through with a chisel like a gorilla), I decided to go aluminum to shave a few pounds and add some stiffness. This was definitely more $$ than a sane person would spend on a Chinabike, but

New aluminium subframe next to stock steel.

BTW- these are much cheaper brand new from online OEM suppliers than what the bike parter guys on Ebay want. Alot of things are I'm finding out.

The subframe mount was too wide, so we cut off the ends

and took a big bite of unnecessary weight out of the middle and painted it up:

Almost installed:

Kickstand

The stock kickstand on the LXR250 is a stout piece. I've used it to lift the bike, pivot the bike and lots of other abusive things. It's only downfall is it's quite a heavy piece of steel.

After looking around for a replacement that would bolt up I kinda gave up and just bought a Trail Tech kickstand for a Honda CR250x/450x. The problem with it is that it is shorter than the LXR's stock kickstand and it mounted a bit differently.

So I took the stock stand off:

And cut off the old stuff that was in the way and welded on the TT Cr250 piece:

Painted it all up:

Shortened the stock spring by about an inch:

And voila!

Today's Acerbis fuel tank experiment

So Chadzu told me about puting hot water in my fuel tank and using straps to pull the 'wings' in, so I decided to try it. The wings stuck out further than need and leave a huge 2-3" gap between the tank and radiators. The purpose here is to tuck them in as tight to the rads as possible.

I filled the tank with the hottest water possible and mounted it on the bike. Used a couple ratchet straps to pull it together and hold it in place. I also went a little beyond the original instructions by running my heat gun all over the area I wanted to see bend.

It is cooling down now.

Any bets on whether this works??

Let me know if it works! I am seriously debating the purchase of that tank. I don't want it to stick it too far.

Alternative option would be to make some thin plates out of alumnim to take up the gap and help direct air into the rads. Stick them with scotch all weather "velcro" snaps to the tank, or utilize a coulle of bolt holes if possible.

I am pretty sure the tank bed will help some though

Well, it really does work!!

These pics are after the straps were removed. The 'wings' rebounded a few mm, but it's much narrower than before! Chadzu is a geniuso.

Also my new turn signals are located in my handguards since the dash delete gets rid of the stock mounting location:

Rear setup now has no wires running under the fender. Will use some 3M to attach the wires and Trail Tech remote antennae to the top of the rear fender. I also moved the whole assembly back about 1".

That was my first plan, but Chadzu planted the seed of hot molding this tank. I'll probably still fab up some kind of diverter.
