And how many old computer/monior power cables do you have laying around with these useless connectors?

Most replacements for 15A or higher are stupid huge yellow things. I am so done with that kind of POS.

I finally got a 5 pack of normal scaled replacements for ~$11 (aliexpress, of course). They are actually decent quality brass and rubber construction

Attachment 28598

Solderred in some good brass ring connectors and viola, 10 foot 15 Amp extension cord!

I have a drawer full of those cords. I've been building and repairing computer since the mid 80's so i have a big collection. lol

Not sure if it counts as "buying" or not...

Got approved for a private student loan today. I'm going to run through ATP to finish out all my commercial aviation ratings and fly for a living for real, not just whenever there happens to be an extra seat up front in a plane already going somewhere. It's a huge chunk of change, but I'll have all my ratings through MEI (Multi-Engine Instructor) by the end of the year. Pretty excited about it, honestly.

A bearing separator kit. Because the sixteen bucks worth of parts I need to replace on the Ural required a hundred dollar tool I didn't have.

Just keep reminding yourself what the dealer would have charged you to do the job.

There is that.

I am one day into what I thought would be a one hour job. I'm also doing the four most expensive words in the English language, "While I'm in there..."

I needed to remove the sidecar brake backing plate to access the drive hub, so now I have access to all of the bolts to remove the rusted out fender and put the new one on. So, like a home plumbing job, there's probably at least one trip to Ace for new hardware.

I know you know this rule of thumb, so I am repeating it here for people who don't.

When estimating job length, you should always double it. So the one-hour job becomes two hours. But because you know this rule and try to compensate, you also have to double the doubling, to get four hours. That is how long one-hour jobs take. And if you foolishly say "What could possibly go wrong?", you have to double it again.

New Pants

I was riding around with a vented mesh jacket and all season weatherproof pants....

well the pants can't cope with Australian subtropical summer so I purchased a pair of Duhan Mesh motorcycle pants from Aliexpress...has knee pads but no hip pads :/ But pretty good value compared to elsewhere...

however they do look and feel breezy....

Also got the AN6 banjo fitting to see if it will work on shortening oil cooler lines...

the LEDs turned out to be the wrong socket type for headlamp experiments but will probably work on my van somewhere...

A new gas cap for the Jeep because I left the other one on the roof when I drove off after gassing up for the last time yesterday. It's lying on the road somewhere between Shabbona, Illannoy and home.

I guess that's better than driving off with a gas pump hose.

Added my new Templar 250 to my existing motorcycle basic liability policy for an eye-watering extra $64 a year. I don't think I've paid that little for insurance on anything ever.

Also the new supposedly uprated Templar battery from Amazon came in.
