Love the 300 kit. As stated previously, made the bike much more friendly. Far less of a two stroke power band.
After I finish another car project I'm currently on, I'd be very interested in the front brake kit and water bottle.

NZ, these changes started in Jan 2017. Is there any indication (by engine number?) that tells old from new? In my case I have a replacement engine so the date of bike manufacture does not help.

I can see that the internal ribbing changed, also a retainer on the counterbalance shaft bearing. I do not see a different number of bolts holding the cases together. Thus, I cannot see how one can determine which engine is the 'improved' one without tearing into the cases. Note that the two photos are taken from a slightly different angle, hiding one of the bolt holes in one of the photos. All this is moot until one needs a replacement internal part where there might be a different part number. As an aside, I think it's good that Zongshen makes small changes as needed to improve what appears to be a very well built engine.

I just think it's neat that Zong is improving and updating. It proves that they're serious about this and not just pumping out a motor to flood the market, then walk away.

NZ, your photos might show darn near anything but I can't tell because they are too small. My observations are based on the much better photo provided by Juarno, where the engine cases appear to have the same bolt pattern. If the outer cover is different that would indeed make it possible to spot the improved engine without splitting the cases.

I know it's not 300cc's, but can't remember what it actually was....

My own kit is about to come the 1000km mark since installed
Love, really love the added torque, seems much more than 13% increase. Every road I know, I can ride now a gear higher (and thus about 1K / 1,5K rpm lower) Cruise speed is about the same, but no need to downshift overpassing slow trucks. Recovery in 6th from 5K to 7K rpm is really fast and smooth Also engine sounds much fuller and bigger. |

I came up with the same number. What I find interesting is that the original displacement is 249.6cc; it's an actual 250cc. So often, motorcycle manufacturers will round up the displacement, like Yamaha did with the second generation SR250 (which was only 239cc).
